A look at Kylian Mbappe’s incredible Real Madrid record since the start of last season
With the Ballon d’Or ceremony just around the corner, the debate has heated up in the footballing community, with at least four players- Kylian Mbappe, Lamine Yamal, Rodri and Harry Kane emerging as contenders.
Recent reports indicate Yamal may have the upper hand, especially with Barcelona running a strong PR campaign in support of the youngster. Mbappe’s chances, to that end, remain bleak given that the Frenchman endured a trophyless campaign.
But despite the lack of silverware, it is perhaps worth mentioning the output the Frenchman has provided for Real Madrid since the start of last season.

Since the beginning of the 2025-26 season, Mbappe has produced a remarkable 81 goal contributions, comprising 66 goals and 15 assists.
It is a truly astonishing return that underlines just how prolific the Frenchman has been since arriving at the Bernabeu.
Despite adapting to a new league, a new environment and, this season, a new coach in Jose Mourinho, Mbappe has continued to score at a relentless rate.
Perhaps the most impressive detail of all is that Mbappe has now scored against every single La Liga team he has faced.
That level of consistency against all types of opposition speaks to his sheer quality and adaptability, and he has already been among the goals again in the early weeks of the current campaign.
Outside chance of Ballon d’Or

Despite those numbers, Mbappe remains an outsider for the Ballon d’Or, largely due to Real Madrid’s trophyless campaign last season.
That has not stopped the Frenchman from making his case publicly, however.
In a recent France Football interview, Mbappe insisted there was “no one better” than him last season, comments that have sparked a war of words with France teammate Ousmane Dembele.
Mbappe had described himself as “the chosen one” while suggesting Dembele’s path was hindered by injuries, remarks that reportedly did not sit well with the reigning Ballon d’Or holder.
Dembele fired back by stressing the hard work behind his own rise, adding a layer of intrigue to an already fascinating race.
Ultimately, though, silverware often proves decisive in the Ballon d’Or reckoning, and with Yamal boasting a World Cup and LaLiga title, Mbappe’s brilliant individual output may not be enough this time around.

Real Madrid summer signing already losing prominence under Jose Mourinho
Bernardo Silva was one of Real Madrid’s headline signings last summer. The Portuguese midfielder arrived on a free transfer from Manchester City and appeared destined to become the creative successor to Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in the middle of the park.
Indeed, with the club having not signed a new central midfielder, many within Real Madrid saw the veteran star as a solution to the issue.
Manager Jose Mourinho made him a starter from the very beginning in pre-season, but not in his usual role on the right. Instead, he deployed his compatriot as a deep-lying playmaker in the midfield double pivot.
A change in circumstances
Silva failed to have the expected influence when operating in a deeper role in midfield in the chances he got.

Combined with the emergence of Arda Guler and Aurelien Tchouameni’s return to fitness, the Portuguese international has now lost his place in the starting line-up and dropped to the bench.
Bernardo’s situation became particularly striking against Villarreal this past Saturday at the Santiago Bernabeu, when he did not play a single minute.
Limited opportunities under Mourinho
Bernardo has played six matches for Real Madrid, starting three and coming on as a substitute in another three.
He did not feature against Villarreal or Elche, while his only appearance in the last three matches was a little over 10 minutes against Atletico Madrid. He was not used regularly by the Portugal national team during the international break either.

Across Real Madrid’s eight La Liga fixtures, Silva has accumulated just 282 minutes of playing time.
The Champions League now presents another opportunity for the former Manchester City captain, who has yet to make his European debut for Real Madrid this season.
He missed the match against Inter Milan because he was still serving a suspension carried over from his time at the Etihad Stadium last season.
It remains to be seen whether Mourinho will give him an opportunity against AS Roma in the coming week.
For now, the midfielder’s reduced playing time suggests that the Portuguese coach has lost some of his faith in a player who arrived with high expectations after leaving Manchester City.
