The highest of pressure brings out the best pearls, and Vinicius Jr is one such young star at Real Madrid who continues impressing day in and day out.

Despite being drowned in controversy and conflict outside the field, the youngster entertains no-nonsense when on duty for Real Madrid. Last night, once again, he stepped up for the Merengues when it mattered the most despite not being at his 100% health-wise.

In 90 minutes against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, the Brazilian phenom completed eight dribbles, recorded three shots and was involved in fourteen defensive actions for his side. His biggest contribution, however, was the late goal he scored which guaranteed the UCL title for Real Madrid.

In elite company

Vinicius was Real Madrid’s best player in the final third last night and single-handedly led the counter for his side on a night when both Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo Goes were far from their best.

What makes his goal more special, however, is that it was his second goal in a UEFA Champions League final after the match-winner he scored against Liverpool in 2022.

His achievement places him in elite company as one of the few South American players to have scored in at least two Champions League finals. Only Lionel Messi and Alfredo Di Stefano can claim to have achieved the feat in history.

Ballon d’Or for Vini?

Having secured the league title convincingly and also gone all the way in the Champions League, it is safe to say that the Ballon d’Or is very likely to return to Santiago Bernabeu this year.

Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr were said to be best placed to take home the accolade earlier this month, but the Brazilian’s goal in the final may well be enough to give him the edge.

The upcoming Euros and Copa America may indeed play a role in the final decision, but it is safe to say that Vini is currently in the driver’s seat to win his first Ballon d’Or.

Real Madrid are set to welcome two new stars this summer, Kylian Mbappe and Endrick, but the Merengues are keen on further bolstering their squad.

Owing to the embarrassment of riches Real Madrid possess in midfield, replacing Toni Kroos with a new signing in midfield is not seen as an immediate priority.

Nonetheless, interesting opportunities will invariably be evaluated closely and it appears the name of Adrien Rabiot has entered the club’s crosshairs.

Real Madrid not the only ones interested

But, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Real Madrid face stiff competition from Premier League clubs and Saudi Arabian teams in their pursuit of midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The French midfielder is set to become a free agent if he chooses not to renew his contract with Juventus, a decision that seems increasingly likely.

Known for his technical prowess and versatility, Rabiot excels at playing multiple roles in midfield and notably thriving as a goal threat with late runs inside the opposition box that tend to catch opponents off guard.

While Real Madrid have no shortage of quality in midfield, Dani Ceballos’ exit could pave the way for the 29-year-old to secure a signing for Los Blancos.

However, Real Madrid would have to outmanoeuvre both the financial prowess of Saudi Arabian teams and the competitive allure of Premier League clubs to secure Rabiot’s signature.

On top of that, Juventus are also not giving up on their efforts to try and renew the contract of the French international.

In any case, Rabiot is unlikely to be a priority target for the club but they will be sure to keep a close eye on how his situation develops.
