Real Madrid presented a timely Christmas present to Carlo Ancelotti and fans of the club with an extension of the coach’s contract until 2026.

Owing to his exceptional work this campaign as well as his success since taking over the reigns for a second time, Real Madrid harbored no doubts about renewing the Italian’s contract, which expired next summer.

With the official announcement recently made, Ancelotti has seized the opportunity to express his excitement about continuing his journey in the Spanish capital.

“It’s a very happy day. I am very happy to continue dreaming at this club, with these players. It’s a day that I have to write down on the calendar because it’s a happy day. I have renewed because the team has been successful in recent years and this year we are also having it.

“The club sees that there is a good atmosphere between us and this is very important because without a good relationship between the coach and the players the club cannot succeed. Obviously, I thank the club for the renewal, but also the players, who are showing an extraordinary attitude,” he gleefully remarked.

Emphasizing the values of kinship practiced in Madrid, Ancelotti regarded Real Madrid as not just a massive institution; but a close-knit family.

“Real Madrid is for me, above all, a family. The atmosphere that this club generates around it is very familiar, starting with the president. Each of us brings out the best because we work in a family environment,” he stated.

Ancelotti then recognized club President Florentino Perez as the guiding influence of this family, acknowledging his incredible work over the past two decades. He claimed:

“I consider Florentino a father of a family and a man who in football has achieved what no one has been able to achieve. He continues to maintain a very strong motivation because he is the first fan of this club.

He has been since he was a child and this allows him to have a special love for this shirt. It keeps the club at the top. What he has done in the last 20 years is quite important for Real Madrid, as Santiago Bernabéu was in the era of the 50s.”

Looking forward with optimistic lenses, he further added: “This club has a future. The past is already written and the present we are writing. Above all, it has a future with a very young squad and very talented players.

The future of this club will be successful, as was the past and the present. With the generation of new footballers coming out, Madrid’s future will be very successful.”

When asked to comment on some unforgettable moments at Real Madrid, he took a trip down memory line to highlight some incredible victories from the past.

“There are many. We started with Bale’s goal at Valencia in the Cup final, Ramos’ goal in 2014, or the moments that were experienced in the 14th UCL trophy: the semifinal and the comeback against PSG.

I don’t forget any moment. Last year’s victory in the league, the Super Cup and the Copa del Rey. All titles are important and cannot be forgotten,” the 64-year-old remarked.

As someone who has lifted a whopping four Champions League titles, Ancelotti appears to still be hungry for more, stating that he is eager to add a fifth to the list

“My impressive numbers in the Champions League? What has happened is past. I look forward and when they tell me that I have won four European Cups, I only think about winning the fifth next year,” he conveyed.

When asked to draw comparisons with his methods of coaching from 2013 and now, he said:

“I don’t think I’ve changed either in person or by way of coaching. I may have a little more knowledge because I have more experience.”

Shedding light on his coaching staff, Ancelotti communicated that his associates are brimming with zeal and are always on the lookout for improvement through technological advancements.

“They are young, with a lot of enthusiasm. They want to find new things for training, technology… they help us a lot on a daily basis,” the coach expressed.

The renovations of Santiago Bernabeu are close to completion, and with Ancelotti’s extension, he is expected to witness its inauguration firsthand. He verbalized:

“I would like to coach the team when they inaugurate the new Bernabeu. With this renewal, I can think that the day this team plays its first game at the new Bernabéu I will be on the bench. This is good for me.”

Finally, sending a message to the fans, he made it known that with their help, the club would try and overcome all obstacles.

“I wish all Madridistas a happy 2024. We will do it together and together we will try to achieve as much as possible,” he declared.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
