Barcelona president hits out at Perez and Real Madrid: ‘They spew lies and poison the public ‘
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has refused to mince his words against Barcelona in recent times, taking relations between the two Spanish giants to a new low.
Of all the issues arising between them, the Negreira scandal appears to be the big point of clash with Perez firmly believing that payments were indeed made to manipulate results.
As a result, he even came out in a recent interview to emphasise that he will fight alongside judicial backing to ensure that justice is served at any cost.
Laporta hits out
Speaking at the club’s traditional Christmas dinner, Barcelona president Joan Laporta returned the favour by lashing out at Florentino Perez and Real Madrid for their sudden firm stance against the Catalans.
“I must warn you that our current success is generating a lot of envy, and they’re [Real Madrid] reacting in a truly despicable way, using all sorts of underhanded tactics, disregarding every moral code imaginable, and being a bad influence on everyone.”
He then went on to indirectly clarify that he is indeed talking about Los Blancos and not making a general statement.
“I suppose I don’t need to tell you who and which club I’m referring to. They’re constantly trying to discredit us, attacking our badge and our values.”
Laporta then warned Perez and Real Madrid that he and his board will not sit silent if the integrity of the Blaugrana club continues to be attacked.
“We are not going to allow them to continue with these kinds of manoeuvres.”
“They are the same ones who confuse power with unenlightened despotism, who are usually the first to practice cynicism, and who go through life with an arrogance that is as excessive as it is astounding,” he added, firing shots at Los Blancos.
Elaborating on where he felt Real Madrid constantly crossed the line, he hit out at Real Madrid TV and the open attack on referees.
“I’m talking about the same people who run a monstrosity of a TV program from which they spew lies and poison the public permanently and constantly.”
Towards the end of his take on Real Madrid, he called out the men in white for trying to discredit Barcelona at a time of strength, hinting that envy may be involved.
“We are strong again, both on and off the pitch, while they try to distort our image and even dare to erase our history and claim it as their own.”
“They will not succeed; we are building a glorious era, we will reach the pinnacle of success again, and this will be thanks primarily to you,” he added.

Real Madrid weighing up January move for €70 million-rated Arsenal midfielder – report
Real Madrid’s midfield is the one department where Jose Mourinho sees clear scope for improvement, especially given that the club did not sanction his wish for a top midfield signing in the summer.
While Bernardo Silva has chipped in as a handy option to feature in the deep midfield, the club still lacks a controlling and creative option who can glue the team together.
In that sense, there is a clear lacuna that Real Madrid need to address and Defensa Central brings to light that the club have opened up to a potential target.
Zubimendi emerges as a target
Indeed, the player in question is Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi who the club have seen as a target for a long time, and Real Madrid could even go on to sign him in January.
The Spanish international has not started off the new season well under Mikel Arteta and has primarily featured as a substitute. He does, thus, see a move to Madrid with good eyes in every sense.
Real Madrid, for their part, have not ruled out his signing as was reported in recent months and there is even a chance they seriously pursue him in the winter transfer window as a mid-season fix.
The possible fee
The Spanish outlet also add that Zubimendi’s move to Real Madrid could be completed for a fee similar to what Arsenal paid for the player for his transfer from Real Sociedad – €70 million.
Mourinho’s insistence on making a new midfield signing is no secret, and with a clear target now in mind, the board could well back him with the player he wishes.
Notably, however, even Chelsea are seriously interested in his signing.
So far, Federico Valverde has been Real Madrid’s mainstay in midfield, and Aurelien Tchouameni’s return will change the team’s dynamics in the department.
Neither player, however, offers the control and distribution skill set that the team direly lack.
A big part of whether or not the club pushes for Zubimendi, however, will depend on how the Valverde-Tchouameni combination plays out in the coming months. It is, after all, the manager’s first-choice combination for big games.
