Following Germany’s heartbreaking exit from Euro 2024 with a 1-2 defeat to Spain, Joshua Kimmich delivered a poignant speech in the dressing room, paying tribute to Toni Kroos for his immense contribution to the national team.

The Bayern Munich midfielder, who is a top target for Barcelona this summer, expressed regret at not having more opportunities to play alongside the Real Madrid legend, whom he hailed as Germany’s greatest player ever.

“I wanted to thank everyone who was there for their efforts. And I wanted to thank Toni,” said the German midfielder as quoted by BILD (h/t iMiaSanMia).

“He celebrated incredible titles and records. I would have loved to have won another title with him.

“For me, he’s indisputably the greatest German player we’ve had. It’s also remarkable what kind of guy, what kind of person he is. He’s a role model for all of us in the dressing room,” he added.

The end of an era

The defeat marked the end of Kroos’ illustrious football journey. Despite Germany’s relentless efforts, they could not break through Spain’s defence, signalling the conclusion of Kroos’ career on the international stage.

Having already retired from club football, the midfielder was set to retire altogether after the ongoing tournament. Yesterday’s result confirmed that he would no longer grace either Real Madrid’s lineup or Germany’s national team.

At 34 years old, Kroos departs from football having amassed an impressive collection of 34 titles. His tenure at Bayern Munich saw him clinch ten trophies, including the prestigious 2013 treble.

He was also a pivotal member of Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning squad in Brazil, a triumph that preceded his move to Real Madrid.

During his time at the Spanish club, Kroos added another 23 titles to his name, notably securing six Champions League victories.

Kroos has always maintained that he would retire from football at his peak, and while the conclusion of his career may be tinged with sadness, it does not overshadow the remarkable legacy he leaves behind.

As he hangs up his boots, football bids farewell to a true legend whose absence will be keenly felt across the sport.

Real Madrid realized one of their biggest sporting and commercial ambitions by signing Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer this summer.

Adhering faithfully to their Galacticos philosophy, signing Mbappe exemplified that the Merengues pursue not only elite talent but also renowned figures who carry global recognition.

While Mbappe has yet to play a single minute for the club, he is already busy breaking records at the club.

Mbappe’s shirt sales are through the roof

Indeed, according to El Chiringuito, within a mere day of its launch, Kylian Mbappe’s jersey sales have soared to an astounding 450% higher than those of Jude Bellingham.

Given Bellingham’s huge name in football, this impressive statistic highlights a fervent demand for the French star’s jerseys among supporters worldwide.

Moreover, the club’s online store has reaped substantial financial rewards, generating an impressive sum of €800,000 solely from the sale of Mbappe’s jerseys.

On top of that, they have sold more than 7,000 Mbappe shirts at the club’s physical store which will have provided further revenue boost.

Considering that the 2018 World Cup winner will don the number 9 shirt adds to the incredible demand, as several greats of the game have represented this number in the past, including Karim Benzema most recently.

Real Madrid struggling to keep up with the demand

Reports have mentioned that Real Madrid are appealing for patience from their fans as they handle the high volume of sales.

In fact, Real Madrid eventually posted a note on their website warning that delivery delays of up to 4-6 extra weeks may occur due to the great demand for Mbappe’s kits.

Tuesday, July 16 is set aside for his formal presentation at the Santiago Bernabeu, where a full house is expected to greet him, potentially with a large chunk of the fans wearing Mbappe jerseys.
