After slowly building their team back to the absolute best, the summer of 2024 seems like the time when Real Madrid will finally plug most of the remaining holes in the team by going hard in the transfer market.

While the priority is Kylian Mbappe, and has been for half a decade at this point, they are also eyeing moves for several other talented players.

The centre-back position and possibly central midfield will be one they will be looking to solve. But before those two, Madrid want to strengthen their fullback areas in the summer.

According to reports from MARCA, Madrid have identified one player each they want to sign at right and left back respectively in the form of Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and Girona’s Yan Couto.

Both players know that Madrid will make likely make a move for them in the summer, and they know all they have to do is be patient and not renew their current contracts.

Davies’ case

Madrid have Davies on their radar for a few years now, and finally seem ready to make a move for him in the summer. Now 23, the Canadian is among the best players in his position, and also seems ready for a move abroad.

His current contract expires in the summer of 2025, which means Bayern could be rushed to sell him rather than lose him on free next year.

Thet said, it seems unlikely that they will accept anything less than €40 odd million for their superstar, especially with the current market scarce with talented left-backs.

Couto’s case

Coming off a superb season with Girona, Couto has played as both, a right-back and a wide midfielder/winger under Michel. He has a goal and six assists to his name so far in 21 appearances (15 starts).

He will return to his parent club in Manchester City in the summer, who are most likely ready to sell him, especially with his contract with the treble winners expiring in 2025, as well.

While Girona want to retain his services for next season, the 21-year-old is aware that a move for Madrid is very much on the cards for him.

Real Madrid’s collective strength this season cannot be questioned as coach Carlo Ancelotti has assembled a well-oiled side that knows little except bagging victories.

Yet, even in this formidable lineup, Real Madrid’s top scorer this season, Jude Bellingham, stands out above the rest.

The Englishman has exceeded all expectations since joining the Merengues and was once more a key factor for Real Madrid against Barcelona recently.

His last-minute winner against the Catalans saw Madrid essentially confirm their La Liga victory, as the Royal Whites maintain a dominant 11-point lead over Barcelona with seven games left to spare.

Praise from an international teammate

Now, Manchester City sensation Phil Foden, Bellingham’s international teammate and foe from last week has come out to shower praise upon the midfielder.

“I can’t believe his age. I’ve never seen anyone so mature for their age. I feel like he has a gift from God with his physique,” Foden told Mail Sport.

Not only does Foden get to witness Bellingham witness his talents in the English camp, but he also suffered at his hands in Real Madrid’s second-leg quarter-final affair against Manchester City.

Even though the Real Madrid star did not stamp his name on the scoreboard, a moment of great poise under pressure allowed Madrid to take the lead early on.

When asked if Bellingham has ever asked for advice, Foden replied that he does not need any considering he is level-headed and has a supportive family.

“I don’t think he needs any advice, to be honest. He’s an exceptional player. He has a good head on his shoulders. I think he has a good family around him. He is someone I look at, and I don’t see any weaknesses in him,” the 23-year-old claimed.

Bellingham is flying high

In addition to triumphing over Barcelona and Manchester City with great performances, Bellingham was busy collecting wins off the pitch.

Indeed, the 20-year-old was recently awarded the Laureus Award for the Breakthrough of the Year for 2024.

With 21 goals and 10 assists for Real Madrid this season, he has become a beacon of reliability for the Merengues this season.

And the club will be relying on him heavily in the upcoming showdown with Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-finals.
