The future of Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies has been a major talking point over the past couple of days, with reports suggesting that a summer move to Real Madrid is on the cards.

Indeed, on Monday, it was reported that Davies has already reached a verbal agreement with Los Blancos to join the club either this summer or next year, when his contract with the Bundesliga champions expires.

Bayern Munich, for their part, have remained in talks with the 23-year-old Canadian’s agent, Nedal Huoseh, over a new contract, but have been reluctant to meet his massive wage demands, reported to be worth around €20 million per year.

Bayern director Max Eberl opens up on Davies’ situation

Now, speaking to the media, Bayern Munich’s newly-appointed director, Max Eberl, has spoken out on the future of Davies and the club’s intentions with the Canadian left-back.

“I will try to continue the conversation. Then we will make a decision. We don’t want to lose any players on a free transfer,” said Eberl, as quoted by journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The CEO of Bayern Munich, Jan-Christian Dreesen, also commented on the situation of the 23-year-old Real Madrid target and said:

“Of course, we have a player in Alphonso who has made excellent progress not only with his speed but also with his character. We are in talks with his agent. Christoph is involved in this matter. Max will now also address this issue.”

As has been made clear by Eberl’s words, Bayern do not wish to lose Davies for free in 2025 if he does not sign a renewal.

But with his heart seemingly set on a move to Real Madrid, an extension at Bayern Munich looks far from a likely possibility at this point. As such, the Bavarian giants will be forced to listen to offers for the left-back come summer.

Real Madrid, thus, will be at the front of the queue for his signing, although they are clear that they will not pay crazy money for Davies considering his contract expires next year.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
