Bayern Munich eyeing surprise move for Real Madrid youngster – report

Bayern Munich are looking to launch a counter-attack towards Real Madrid in response to the latter’s pursuit of Alphonso Davies.

If a report from SPORT is to be believed, the record German champions are growing fond of a certain Rafa Marin, a Real Madrid player currently on loan to Alaves.

Earlier, it was reported that the Bavarians would go after Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo, but the Uruguayan’s €1 billion worth of release clause and the player’s unwillingness to listen to any offers is proving it hard for them to make a move.

Bayern are preparing for the worst

Bayern Munich are currently in negotiations with Alphonso Davies, who has a year and a half left on his contract. Right now, they just want to get into a discussion with the player and his representative even if it means the player will end up leaving.

In that case, Thomas Tuchel will need to find someone new for the left side of the defence.

On the other hand, there is a growing sense of belief that Matthijs de Ligt might also leave Bayern and that makes it even more important to get a good replacement. For that very reason, Marin is a possible choice, especially since they can’t get Araujo.

It is to be noted that Bayern’s sports management has a longstanding familiarity with Marin, as Marco Neppe, the technical director, has been tracking him since his days at Castilla.

However, Real Madrid continue to hold control over the centre-back having renewed his contract until 2026 before loaning him to Alaves.

Los Blancos have Marin in their ranks but securing a starting role for the 2024-25 season may prove challenging for him.

In the absence of Eder Militao and David Alaba, Nacho has emerged as a leader and despite being 34 years of age, there is a possibility that he might extend for another year.

Amidst all this, though, Real Madrid are beginning to realise the need to have a young player in defence and this is where Marin comes in. However, Bayern might disrupt Madrid’s plans.

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has said that during a recent training session, he bumped into Raul, a former striker and current Castilla manager, who confessed to him that he did not like his decision to retire from the game.

The midfielder added that he would now be interested in playing the Legends match where the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos and Raul participate.

The veteran admitted that playing alongside these legends one day would be quite exciting.

“When I left the training yesterday, Raul was outside. He told me that he did not like the decision at first but found something positive because now I’m definitely playing this legends game with him,” said Kroos on his podcast

“He said I had to be there. Me and Zizou playing behind him, Figo on the right, and RC3 (Roberto Carlos) at the back. That could be funny,” he added.

Life after Toni Kroos

During the early hours of Tuesday, May 21, Kroos announced that he would retire from professional football after the upcoming European Championship in his home country.

As a result, Real Madrid now have to work on an alternate strategy to plan life beyond Kroos. As suggested before, the Los Blancos are of the idea that at present, there is no one in the market who can fill the void.

On the other hand, though, Dani Ceballos’ chances of staying have now increased. At the same time, there are reports that Joshua Kimmich is being monitored, but nothing seems concrete yet.

For now, Real Madrid are largely expected to rely on the current roster as the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and even Jude Bellingham are more than capable of occupying Kroos’ position.

If even that does not work out, the team from the Spanish capital can look into the youth system to rope in a capable alternative.
