At this point, it is well-established that Real Madrid hold a serious interest in signing Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies in the summer of 2024.

The Canadian international has been on Los Blancos’ agenda for some time now and with Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia not convincing, the Spanish capital club are looking for an upgrade in Davies.

What makes the 23-year-old speedster an even more enticing prospect is the fact that his contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2025, which means he could be available for an affordable price next summer.

Bayern Munich in contract talks with Davies

With there being some structural changes in the Bayern Munich hierarchy, there had been some delays in contract negotiations with Davies.

However, as per Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany (h/t Madrid Xtra), the Bundesliga champions have now opened talks over a new deal for the Canadian speedster.

But the update claims that the negotiations, at this point, are complicated and as such in case an agreement is not reached, Bayern Munich would look to sell Davies in the summer of 2024.

This development will come as music to the ears of the Real Madrid hierarchy, as they are intent on roping in the Canadian from the Bavarian giants next summer.

Davies’ agent has fuelled speculations

Not long ago, Nedal Huoseh, the agent of Alphonso Davies, stirred things up with his comments in the media, where he hinted that a move to Real Madrid may be on the cards.

“He played with Alaba for 3 years, they are friends, they talk all the time, whatever conversations they have together privately, Davies doesn’t share with me every information about it, but I’m sure David would like to play with him again. Maybe he told him,” Huoseh said last month.

However, more recently, the 23-year-old’s representative insisted that the player was only focused on Bayern Munich.

“Right now, Phonzy is at Bayern Munich, that’s where his focus is,” he said earlier this month.

But with talks between Davies and Bayern seeming complicated, there is a real possibility that the former could end up on the market, allowing Real Madrid to swoop in.

I agree that if Davies turns out to be a Mercenary, then SELL him in the Summer! Bayern is still a Special Club. If he is only about Cash, bye, bye!

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has said that during a recent training session, he bumped into Raul, a former striker and current Castilla manager, who confessed to him that he did not like his decision to retire from the game.

The midfielder added that he would now be interested in playing the Legends match where the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos and Raul participate.

The veteran admitted that playing alongside these legends one day would be quite exciting.

“When I left the training yesterday, Raul was outside. He told me that he did not like the decision at first but found something positive because now I’m definitely playing this legends game with him,” said Kroos on his podcast

“He said I had to be there. Me and Zizou playing behind him, Figo on the right, and RC3 (Roberto Carlos) at the back. That could be funny,” he added.

During the early hours of Tuesday, May 21, Kroos announced that he would retire from professional football after the upcoming European Championship in his home country.

As a result, Real Madrid now have to work on an alternate strategy to plan life beyond Kroos. As suggested before, the Los Blancos are of the idea that at present, there is no one in the market who can fill the void.

On the other hand, though, Dani Ceballos’ chances of staying have now increased. At the same time, there are reports that Joshua Kimmich is being monitored, but nothing seems concrete yet.

For now, Real Madrid are largely expected to rely on the current roster as the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and even Jude Bellingham are more than capable of occupying Kroos’ position.

If even that does not work out, the team from the Spanish capital can look into the youth system to rope in a capable alternative.
