Alphonso Davies has been a long-standing target for Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti & co. see the Canadian superstar to possess the firepower Los Blancos need on the left flank, thus prioritising his signing this summer.

Last month, word had it that the Merengues had agreed on terms with Davies over a summer move and that the transfer was close to being completed. In reality, however, Davies is still far off from a future in Madrid, although the decision lies in his hands.

Bayern pressing

As revealed by BILD, Bayern Munich Sports director Christoph Freund still believes in the Bavarians’ chances of renewing the player.

While talks were said to have stalled for months, the German outlet reports that the club held a meeting with Davies’ agent Nick Huoseh in Madrid on Tuesday.

The agent stood strong on his client’s demand of a revised pay scale of €20 million. Bayern Munich offered €13 million to €14 million in the recent meeting, and there is thus still a sizeable gap.

The player has not yet made a binding decision on his future beyond 2025.

With just over one year left on his contract, however, Bayern will be pressurised to sell him should he not renew by the end of the season.

The price tag

The German outlet further adds that Bayern Munich demand €70 million for Davies’ signing this summer if a renewal cannot be negotiated.

That figure, however, is considerably beyond Real Madrid’s budget and they will hope to leverage their negotiations on the fact that he will be a free agent next year.

The limit set at the Spanish capital is around the €40 million mark and it remains to be seen if the gap can be bridged.

Bayern Munich, however, appear confident that they have a chance in retaining the star.

“It’s not unlikely at all. There are talks and the talks are good and open. We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks,” the club’s sporting director said recently on a renewal, after all.

Speaking in an interview with Vamos (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has acknowledged that Real Madrid ace Jude Bellingham is the No. 1 footballer in the world currently.

Bellingham has enjoyed a spectacular debut season at Real Madrid and has been one of their chief protagonists as the Merengues won the La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup titles and made it to the UCL finals.

Even though his form has somewhat dipped in the latter stages of the season, the England international remains integral to Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and one of Los Blancos’ most important players.

And Spain manager Luis de la Fuente expressed his admiration for Bellingham, saying:

“He is a player who is doing particularly well. It’s a subjective view, but I like Bellingham’s style a lot, I like that type of player, powerful….”

When asked if Bellingham is the No. 1 player in the world at the moment, De la Fuente replied in the affirmative, as he said: “I think so.”

Bellingham has played 40 times in all competitions for Real Madrid this season, racking up a total of 23 goals and 12 assists in the process.

The 20-year-old’s exploits with Los Blancos in his debut campaign have put him in contention for the Ballon d’Or this year.

A strong performance in the finals of the UEFA Champions League next month and a solid run with England at the UEFA Euro 2024 could further his chances of winning the Golden Ball, although his teammate Vinicius Jr. is also an equally strong contender.
