The move to Saudi Arabia was said to be Karim Benzema’s dream move in many ways. Already on the wrong side of thirty and the final years of his playing career, the former Real Madrid captain saw the Middle East to be the ideal location to pursue his football with a hefty paycheck.

Less than six months after making the move, however, Benzema is said to be repenting the same. He sees the league as not matching his wavelengths in terms of motivation and is eyeing a return to Europe.

Reports earlier this month insisted that Real Madrid had closed the door to his return, as they always do with players who leave the club. Given the striker’s age, the decision came across as justifiable.

Rumour taken too far

Follow-up reports over Benzema’s future furthered his links to Real Madrid and even went on to state that Carlo Ancelotti would not be opposed to a reunion.

Florentino Perez, according to the report, was the limiting factor who was opposed to signing the veteran.

Now, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, Benzema’s brother Gressy Benzema has openly come out to label the report as ‘fake news’ and shut down rumours of Ancelotti’s green light.

The update only goes to reinforce the fact that no party in Madrid is willing to make the reunion happen, and understandably so.

Looking to the future

Real Madrid signing Benzema at 36 years of age would be an impractical move, especially considering that their focus is on building a sustainable future.

Florentino Perez has already secured the young core necessary for the same, with a few cogs like the centre-forward and full-back positions yet to be fortified.

Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are thus on Real Madrid’s radar for the summer transfer window, with the Frenchman taking the upper hand in recent weeks. It remains to be seen who the team’s blockbuster summer signing will be.

Real Madrid will sign off on their successful La Liga campaign today with a fixture against Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The game, being seen as a final preparation for the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, sees manager Carlo Ancelotti field his strongest possible lineup.

All eyes will obviously be on the retiring Toni Kroos, who bids goodbye to the Bernabeu in what will be his final home game as a Real Madrid player.

The German international starts in the centre of the park alongside Federico Valverde, while Eduardo Camavinga slots in as the No. 6.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid captain, Nacho Fernandez, also starts in what could be his last game at the Bernabeu as well.

Nacho pairs up with Antonio Rudiger in defence, flanked by the full-back pairing of Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy. Thibaut Courtois starts in goal ahead of Andriy Lunin and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Up front, Vinicius Jr. starts in attack, partnering up with Rodrygo Goes. Top scorer Jude Bellingham occupies the attacking midfield role for Real Madrid.
