Brahim Diaz speaks after scoring stunning goal during Real Madrid 4-1 Villarreal: “One of the best”

Real Madrid put four goals past Villarreal on Sunday night to provisionally move back to the top of La Liga standings. The game had everything in equal measure, from moments of elation and joy to periods of pain and unfortunate injuries.

The victory may have been comprehensive and made possible through a cohesive effort. Yet, it was Brahim Diaz who stole the headlines with his incredible goal on the night.

The youngster spoke to the media after the clash but began by addressing the subject of David Alaba’s injury.

“First I want to send a message of encouragement to Alaba. We don’t know what happened but it came out a little annoyed, we saw him a little sad. We are with him.”

Speaking about the team’s performance, Diaz emphasised the defensive show and how critical it was for the team’s success on the night.

“The defensive work of the match would be highlighted. The attitude we have had and the intensity throughout the game have made him win. We are very talented players, we know how to play with the ball and we create a lot of danger.”

Speaking about his goal that slammed into the net of the bottom right corner, Diaz expressed his elation by saying,

“These are plays that I usually make and today it has entered. Very happy with the work of the team and the game. It was necessary to win and we have done it.”

“I am very happy for the goal and the victory. It is one of the best goals of my career without a doubt. And especially at the Bernabéu,” he emphatically added.

He was then quizzed on his budding partnership with Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham, the secret behind which he revealed to the media.

“We understand each other very well, in training as well. We all understand each other because there is an incredible group, we are very close and then that is seen in the field.”

Perhaps Diaz’s most special moment on the night, however, was the rousing round of ovation he received when stepping off the field.

“It’s something unique and above all in the Santiago Bernabéu, a dream. I can only be grateful to the public because the affection they have always had for me is spectacular. It’s all thanks to them,” he said about the moment that sent chills up his spine.

He went on to show his gratitude to the fans for every ounce of love they showered on him, saying,

“Thank you very much for everything. They give us the push so that we can score that goal on the field or we can make that defensive move.”

“Very grateful because they are always there. It’s going to end in 2023 but a very nice 2024 begins, for sure,” he added.

Real Madrid will sign off on their successful La Liga campaign today with a fixture against Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The game, being seen as a final preparation for the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, sees manager Carlo Ancelotti field his strongest possible lineup.

All eyes will obviously be on the retiring Toni Kroos, who bids goodbye to the Bernabeu in what will be his final home game as a Real Madrid player.

The German international starts in the centre of the park alongside Federico Valverde, while Eduardo Camavinga slots in as the No. 6.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid captain, Nacho Fernandez, also starts in what could be his last game at the Bernabeu as well.

Nacho pairs up with Antonio Rudiger in defence, flanked by the full-back pairing of Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy. Thibaut Courtois starts in goal ahead of Andriy Lunin and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Up front, Vinicius Jr. starts in attack, partnering up with Rodrygo Goes. Top scorer Jude Bellingham occupies the attacking midfield role for Real Madrid.
