Cadiz goalkeeper confident of beating Real Madrid: “We have done it once and can do it more times”

Cadiz goalkeeper Conan Ledesma has said that his side is very much capable of beating Real Madrid as they have already done once in the past, saying that they are a very strong team at home and can give Madrid a run for their money.

It is to be noted that Cadiz’s last win over Real Madrid dates back to October 2020 when Anthony Lozano’s only goal decided the course of the game. Since then, the team from the Spanish capital has won three of the last five contests, drawing two.

However, while speaking ahead of Sunday’s context, Ledesma seemed extremely confident and when asked if Cadiz can beat Madrid, he said, “Clearly. We have done it once and we can do it more times,” he told AS.

“More playing at home, really, except for the Girona game, when we had a setback, we are very strong at home and we want to continue like this.”

Ledesma explained that Real Madrid are a very strong team and they would leave no stone unturned to punish Cadiz if they make a mistake or allow them any chance to score a goal.

The goalkeeper was asked what would be the key for his side against the record European champions, to which he said, “Real Madrid are a great team with great intensity, and they have players with great technical quality.

“So, you have to put in more and more effort, where the mistakes, the little mistakes that you may have, maybe they will benefit, but I have great faith that we will win,” he explained.

As far as the match is concerned, Real Madrid will miss several first-team regulars through injury, including Vinicius Jr, Aurelien Tchoumeni and Eduardo Camavinga.

On the other hand, top scorer Jude Bellingham is expected to play, although with protection in the injured area.

Bundesliga title-winner ‘is ready for Real Madrid’, says former German great

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
