Carlo Ancelotti will renew his contract with Real Madrid – report

The list of candidates to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid is growing longer by the day. What began as a closed group with Xabi Alonso, Raul Gonzalez and Alvaro Arbeloa now has the likes of Roberto de Zerbi, Mauricio Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane and even Lionel Scaloni on it.

On one side, Real Madrid are linked with all of the aforementioned names to some capacity. Concurrently, however, there are talks about renewing Ancelotti and the situation is quite clearly uncertain.

Twist in the tale

The last 24 hours have been critical in deciding the Merengues’ managerial future, or so it seems. Yesterday, it was reported that Real Madrid were headed towards renewing the Italian tactician and that the deal would be completed by Christmas.

Now, journalist Josep Pedrol of El Chiringuito relays that Ancelotti will indeed renew his contract with Real Madrid. The administration are satisfied with the start he has provided to the new season and see him as the right man to take the project forward.

Needless to say, this crushes all talks of a potential departure to the Brazilian National Team despite convincing words by the CBF president. After all, Ancelotti has openly denied the same on numerous occasions.

A blistering start

Earlier this year, word had it that Ancelotti’s renewal would depend on Real Madrid’s performance across all competitions this season. The number and quality of trophies won, reports said, would be the decisive factor.

It now appears that the management are satisfied with the start Real Madrid have achieved and do not see the need to wait until the business end of the season. After all, Real Madrid are currently joint leaders in La Liga and comfortably on top in their UCL group.

After unveiling the final squad for France for the upcoming European Championship, coach Didier Deschamps appeared in front of the media to discuss the nation’s preparations for the tournament.

Deschamps was notably asked about Kylian Mbappe and his potential move to Real Madrid in the coming summer.

Deschamps on Mbappe announcement

When asked when Real Madrid may announce the signing of Mbappe, the French coach replied (h/t L’Equipe), “They will decide when it’s time to make it official. As far as possible, I will adapt to the squad.”

This comes on the back of earlier reports which claim that Real Madrid are desperate to announce the signing of Mbappe before the start of Euro 2024.

The coveted tournament begins June 14, though France’s opening game is on June 18 as they take on Austria in the city of Dusseldorf.

Deschamps also dismissed concerns over Mbappe’s form, stating, “You don’t find Kylian Mbappé in good shape? He only scored 44 goals in the season. It’s true that he could have done better.”

Deschamps on Tchouameni’s fitness

As things stand, a total of three Real Madrid players are a part of the France squad for the European Championship.

One of them is Aurelien Tchouameni, who picked up a knock earlier this month which could keep him out of the upcoming Champions League final.

Deschamps, though, is not worried about his fitness and is hopeful of having the midfielder back for the Euros.

“Tchouaméni? I’m not worried. The deadline is too short for the UCL final but for the Euro it’s more than doable,” he said.
