The left-back position has been volatile for Real Madrid all season. Despite the manager having two options to choose from in Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia, neither player has convincingly proven to be a regular starter.

The Spanish defender began the season on the front foot, but it has been Mendy with the upper hand in recent games. The Frenchman has started Real Madrid’s last four clashes, pushing Garcia to the bench.

The revival performance

As revealed by Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid’s recent comeback win over Almeria could well serve as the trigger that brings Garcia back into the starting XI.

Mendy started on the night at the Santiago Bernabeu and did not earn himself any favours with his performance. With the team looking out of shape, he was taken off at half-time and replaced with Garcia by the manager.

From there on, the Spanish defender, whose market value stands at €15 million, dished out an impressive performance. His attacking output was critical in Real Madrid’s comeback in many ways, earning him the manager’s trust once more.

According to the Spanish outlet, Fran Garcia is thus the favourite to start at left-back against Las Palmas tomorrow. After all, the opposition is known to be one of Spain’s most fit and well-drilled units.

The four key fixtures

Carlo Ancelotti and the Real Madrid administration see the team’s next four games to be critical for the title race.

Las Palmas, Granada, Atletico Madrid and Girona are the team’s next four league oppositions, and securing twelve out of twelve points in those outings would virtually guarantee the title as per the administration’s calculation.

The manager is thus focused on isolating his players from the noise in social media and focusing on the goal ahead. The team’s charge must begin tomorrow as they look for their first dominant win in a while.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
