Ex-Barcelona star issues warning to Real Madrid ahead of FIFA Club World Cup meeting
Flamengo recently became the latest champions of South America by lifting the Copa Libertadores. They beat Athletico Paranaense 1-0 to seal the coveted competition for the third time.
Flamengo’s victory in the Copa Libertadores means the Brazilian giants are set to compete with Real Madrid in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
Ahead of the potential match-up between these two sides, Flamengo midfielder and former Barcelona star Arturo Vidal has sent out a warning to the reigning European champions.
“Real Madrid, we are going to kick your a**,” said Vidal (h/t Alaire Libre), whose comments come just a few days after Flamengo’s triumph in the Copa Libertadores.
Vidal, who had featured in 96 competitive matches for FC Barcelona during his time in Catalonia, moved to Flamengo in the summer, following the end of his two-year spell at Inter Milan.
One would expect the Chilean international to lead the Flamengo side when they take on Real Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup.
In addition to these two teams, other teams participating in the competition include Seattle Sounders from the United States, Wydad Casablanca from Morocco, and Auckland City from New Zealand.
Two more teams remain to the introduced, including the team that will organise the tournament and the winner of the AFC Champions League. Japanese side Urawa is one of the finalists, but it remains to be seen who go up against them in the coveted competition.

Vinicius Jr. is determined to rediscover his best form for Real Madrid after making a relatively slow start to the 2026/27 season.
According to AS, the Brazilian is now focused on turning promising moments into the level of performances that have made him one of the club’s most important players.
The forward has registered one goal and two assists across Real Madrid’s first four league matches so far, while also winning a penalty against Real Betis, which Kylian Mbappe missed.
Understandably, his numbers are hardly alarming, but they fall short of the explosive standards Vinicius has established during his time in Madrid.
Against Betis, he created what appeared to be another decisive moment when he assisted Carlos Espi, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.
As such, the early signs suggest that rather than struggling for confidence, Vinicius is now working to regain the form that previously helped drive Madrid towards major trophies.
Vinicius looking to build momentum
Vinicius has developed a reputation at Real Madrid for producing his most influential football when the stakes are highest.
Many of his strongest stretches have arrived during the second half of seasons, when title races and Champions League knockout ties begin to define the campaign.

Contract saga finally behind Real Madrid star
One major distraction has now been removed from Vinicius’ immediate future.
The long-running contract renewal saga has finally been settled, with the Brazilian extending his Real Madrid contract until 2032.
That gives the winger greater certainty as he begins another campaign with the club and allows his focus to shift towards what happens on the pitch.
At present, Real Madrid’s objective is to win La Liga, particularly after Barcelona won the previous two championships, while another Champions League triumph would carry even greater significance.
On that note, Vinicius has already made no secret of his desire to win the competition again.
“Hopefully the 16th will come. We are ready for that; it’s our competition. Our first objective is to finish in the top eight.
“This season is going to be different from the last two, and we are going to win it,” he said.
Vinicius has a point to prove
The coming months will ultimately determine whether Vinicius can turn his strong belief into another defining Real Madrid campaign.
His early statistics show that he is already contributing, even if the consistency and explosiveness associated with his best performances have not yet arrived.
Hence, Real Madrid do not need Vinicius to panic over a four-match sample.
