Florentino Perez welcomes Alvaro Carreras to Real Madrid – ‘The Bernabeu awaits you’
Alvaro Carreras was officially unveiled as a new Real Madrid player today. The left-back posed for photos alongside his family, holding his new jersey and standing proudly in front of Real Madrid’s 15 Champions League trophies.
Carreras, who has signed a long-term contract with the club, has been handed the number ’18’ shirt for the new season.
This marks a change from the ‘3’ he wore at Benfica and the ’24’ he once sported during his time in Madrid’s youth academy.
It is to be noted that Carreras left Real Madrid’s academy back in 2020 in search of more playing time.
His journey took him to England with Manchester United before moving to Benfica, where he found his best form.
Now at 22, he returns to Madrid as a complete modern full-back, fast, intense, skilled with the ball, and focused on improving his defensive game.
Florentino Perez welcomes Carreras back to Real Madrid
During the presentation, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez shared a few heartfelt words, welcoming Carreras back to the club where his journey began.
“Good morning to Alvaro’s parents, Paula and Francisco, and good afternoon to everyone else. Today is once again an important day for all Real Madrid fans because welcoming back a player is a special act,” said Perez.

“We are experiencing one of the most successful seasons in our history; now we continue working so that the fans can continue dreaming of these challenges.
“For this new season, we’ve already added players like Trent, Huijsen, and Mastantuono, as well as a coach like Xabi Alonso, one of the best in the world. Today, we introduce another of those great players: Alvaro Carreras,” he noted.
Perez highlighted Carreras’ journey, reminding everyone that he started at Racing de Ferrol and Deportivo before joining Real Madrid’s academy.
He has since earned recognition as one of Europe’s best left-backs and represented Spain’s U-21 national team.
“Today, you’re returning to a city you came to as a child, learning what it means to be part of the most successful club in the world.
“Your dream was to play for the first team, and that’s why, like so many others, you decided to leave and return as the great player you are.
“Dear Real Madrid fans, today one of our youth players returns, today one of our own arrives at Madrid, having become one of the best defenders in European football.
“The Bernabeu awaits you; today marks the beginning of a period of intense emotions for you. Welcome home, welcome to Real Madrid,” he concluded.

Real Madrid superstar expected to start vs Villarreal after returning to Spain to continue recovery
Kylian Mbappe is already back in Madrid. The Real Madrid forward landed at Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport this morning accompanied by his partner, Ester Exposito, at 11:16am, according to AS.
Real Madrid were training at Valdebebas from 10:30 am, so it is clear that the Frenchman did not take part in that session.
However, he is expected at Valdebebas later today to continue his recovery and reconditioning after the knee problem he suffered, which will not prevent him from playing against Villarreal, the report further states.
What happened to Mbappe?
Mbappe suffered significant pain in his left knee during the first of France’s four matches during this international break. It was Zinedine Zidane’s debut as national team manager and the Real Madrid attacker scored the only goal of the match.

As he struck the ball, he felt the discomfort and requested for a substitution. At Real Madrid, they believe that had he continued, the problem could have required surgery.
The striker travelled to Spain to undergo tests, and the medical examination determined that he had “hyperextension of the posterior capsule of the left knee”.
As this was the same knee in which Mbappe suffered a serious sprain last season, there was concern at Valdebebas. However, the problem has proved to be minor and Mourinho is counting on Mbappe for the match against Villarreal on 10 October.
Active rest and recovery
After the tests, Mbappe was given permission to spend a few days on active rest under the supervision of Real Madrid’s medical staff.

He spent just under a week away from Madrid as part of a recovery plan in which coordination between the player, coaching staff and doctors was complete.
The France captain is now expected at Valdebebas to gradually readjust to the rhythm of the rest of the squad as the internationals return to training, with Saturday’s match in mind, where he is expected to start.
This comes as good news for Jose Mourinho, who needs the Frenchman, who has scored eight goals this term, at his best to get Real Madrid’s season back on track.
After all, Real Madrid are six points behind Barcelona in La Liga and are approaching a crucial period of the season.
