Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham added the latest jewel to his crown on Monday night. He was officially presented with the Golden Boy award on the night for his performances with Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, and England, and it is safe to say it was fully deserved.

He beat the likes of Jamal Musiala and Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde to win the award on the night and did so by a record margin.

Furthermore, he also ended Barcelona’s two-year dominance of the award for it was Pedri and Gavi who won the last two editions.

Fabregas praises Bellingham

Former Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, himself a winner of the Golden Boy. Award back in 2006, spoke at the Golden Boy ceremony (h/t Mundo Deportivo) about Jude Bellingham being the latest winner of the award.

The ex-Chelsea ace did not hold back in praising the Real Madrid star and had special words for the phenom.

“He’s a great player. A great talent who has the future in his hands and who will have a great career. Without a doubt,” he said.

Having won both the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy, it is clear that the youngster is one of world football’s brightest upcoming talents.

At this point, it is borderline criminal to even place Bellingham in the category of ‘talents’ for he has proven to be capable of rubbing shoulders with the best.

Bellingham expressed his elation

Yesterday, the youngster gave an elaborate interview before picking up his latest accolade handed by Tuttosport where he emphasised how special it was for him to be named Golden Boy.

“This was my last chance because in 2024 I will no longer be able to compete as I will be out of age by regulation. Happy to have made it on my third attempt. I wanted it so much, it’s a trophy for life that you can only win once.”

Needless to say, this is just the beginning for the former Borussia Dortmund star. If he keeps up his form, it is only a matter of time before he is in the conversation for the Ballon d’Or.

Speaking in an interview with Vamos (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has acknowledged that Real Madrid ace Jude Bellingham is the No. 1 footballer in the world currently.

Bellingham has enjoyed a spectacular debut season at Real Madrid and has been one of their chief protagonists as the Merengues won the La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup titles and made it to the UCL finals.

Even though his form has somewhat dipped in the latter stages of the season, the England international remains integral to Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and one of Los Blancos’ most important players.

And Spain manager Luis de la Fuente expressed his admiration for Bellingham, saying:

“He is a player who is doing particularly well. It’s a subjective view, but I like Bellingham’s style a lot, I like that type of player, powerful….”

When asked if Bellingham is the No. 1 player in the world at the moment, De la Fuente replied in the affirmative, as he said: “I think so.”

Bellingham has played 40 times in all competitions for Real Madrid this season, racking up a total of 23 goals and 12 assists in the process.

The 20-year-old’s exploits with Los Blancos in his debut campaign have put him in contention for the Ballon d’Or this year.

A strong performance in the finals of the UEFA Champions League next month and a solid run with England at the UEFA Euro 2024 could further his chances of winning the Golden Ball, although his teammate Vinicius Jr. is also an equally strong contender.
