Aurelien Tchouameni has had an exciting start to his career at Real Madrid. Since joining the club for almost €80 million last summer, the young Frenchman has now become a pivotal figure in Real Madrid’s midfield unit.
However, prior to his move to Santiago Bernabeu, the midfielder was closely linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
In a recent interview, Tchouameni opened up on his links to PSG but revealed his decision to join Real Madrid.
Aurelien Tchouameni on PSG links
Talking about speculations linking him to PSG, Tchouameni said (h/t Madrid Zone), “PSG? Frankly, I thought about it. It’s a very big European club, we want the French clubs to succeed.”
“But honestly, when Real Madrid calls you, it’s very complicated to say no,” Tchouameni added.
The midfielder was linked with a move to PSG during his time at AS Monaco. Les Parisiens wanted to sign the youngster as part of their plans to reinforce the midfield unit.
Tchouameni, though, ended up opting for a move to Real Madrid, which turned out to be a prudent decision from the midfielder’s end.
Tchouameni’s career at Real Madrid
Aurelien Tchouameni made a total of 50 competitive appearances during his maiden season at Real Madrid.
Although the Frenchman was not entirely a first-team regular in Carlo Ancelotti’s setup, his stature in the team is expected to grow in the coming years.
Especially as Toni Kroos and Luka Modric move on at the end of the season, there is scope for Tchouameni to become a first-team regular in the Real Madrid midfield in the years to come.
The former AS Monaco starlet has already played a crucial role in the starting eleven so far this season and it is only going to continue as the season progresses.
Real Madrid like 44-year-old Premier League manager as a candidate to replace Ancelotti
The situation around Carlo Ancelotti’s future at Real Madrid could not be more confusing.
Real Madrid believe that the Italian tactician has not committed his future to any third party and are now interested in renewing his contract beyond this summer. They hope to close the deal by Christmas, per sources.
Concurrently, however, the Brazilian Football Confederation are confident that the coach will join forces with them next summer and see the manager have committed his future to them.
Real Madrid preparing for both situations
Indeed, it is Real Madrid’s priority to renew Ancelotti’s contract beyond this summer, when it is set to expire. However, they are aware that the uncertainty does not bode well and are preparing for the worst anyway.
Los Blancos thus have a long list of potential candidates who could take over in the event Ancelotti leaves. One name on the list is that of Roberto de Zerbi.
Mario Cortegana goes on to confirm the same as part of his latest report. The reliable Spanish journalist states that Los Blancos like the Brighton & Hove Albion manager’s profile.
But he adds that no move has been made yet, contrary to previous reports stating that contact had been established.
De Zerbi is seen as one of the best managers for the long haul, for he focuses his attention on developing his players’ profiles from the grassroots levels. Considering the youth riches in Real Madrid, he could indeed be a good fit.
Ancelotti’s latest stance
The Real Madrid manager has been largely coy over his future in recent months. He has said on numerous occasions that he is open to a renewal although talks do not appear to be progressing beyond the speculative stage.
Earlier this week, the manager spoke to the media and addressed the volatile topic of his future.
“I feel very comfortable in Madrid. In the future, what will happen will happen. I’m not in any hurry, I’m very happy,” he said, hinting towards continuing in Madrid.
Yet, nothing can be said for sure in the world of football until it actually pans out.
