Injury update: Real Madrid duo to miss the first two games of the new season

AS provides an update on the recoveries of two of Real Madrid’s injured stars. According to the Spanish outlet, Ferland Mendy will return from injury in two weeks, while Ceballos would need around 20 days to make a comeback.
Mendy’s injury at El Clasico
Mendy was expected to go out all guns blazing in the pre-season to warrant a starting spot ahead of new signing Fran Garcia.
However, his dreams came crashing down when he had to be taken off during the game against Barcelona.
Tests conducted by the Merengues’ medical staff revealed an injury to his right femoral biceps muscle, and the initial prognosis placed his time out at two weeks.
Seven days later, Mendy is still expected to require two more weeks to return to action. His recovery is progressing slower than expected and he will miss the first part of the new season.
Ceballos’ untimely blow
The heavy competition in Real Madrid’s midfield is well known. With new signings coming in to pile the pressure on Dani Ceballos, the Spaniard was expected to use the pre-season campaign to win the manager’s trust.
However, he suffered an injury in the early pre-season and missed the US tour. He was diagnosed with an injury to the distal tendon of his right femoral biceps muscle and was expected to be out for around six weeks.

Similar to Mendy, it is safe to say that the midfielder too is running behind schedule on his recovery and will still need close to three weeks to recover.
Approaching the season opener
Los Blancos begin their league season on Saturday against Athletic Club and play Almeria six days later. And, as things stand, both Ceballos and Mendy look set to miss those two matches.
Mendy could make his comeback for the team’s third game against Celta Vigo towards the end of the month whereas Ceballos might have to wait until the clash with Getafe in September.

French midfielder admits considering PSG move before Real Madrid called him

Aurelien Tchouameni has had an exciting start to his career at Real Madrid. Since joining the club for almost €80 million last summer, the young Frenchman has now become a pivotal figure in Real Madrid’s midfield unit.
However, prior to his move to Santiago Bernabeu, the midfielder was closely linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
In a recent interview, Tchouameni opened up on his links to PSG but revealed his decision to join Real Madrid.
Aurelien Tchouameni on PSG links
Talking about speculations linking him to PSG, Tchouameni said (h/t Madrid Zone), “PSG? Frankly, I thought about it. It’s a very big European club, we want the French clubs to succeed.”
“But honestly, when Real Madrid calls you, it’s very complicated to say no,” Tchouameni added.

The midfielder was linked with a move to PSG during his time at AS Monaco. Les Parisiens wanted to sign the youngster as part of their plans to reinforce the midfield unit.
Tchouameni, though, ended up opting for a move to Real Madrid, which turned out to be a prudent decision from the midfielder’s end.
Tchouameni’s career at Real Madrid
Aurelien Tchouameni made a total of 50 competitive appearances during his maiden season at Real Madrid.
Although the Frenchman was not entirely a first-team regular in Carlo Ancelotti’s setup, his stature in the team is expected to grow in the coming years.
Especially as Toni Kroos and Luka Modric move on at the end of the season, there is scope for Tchouameni to become a first-team regular in the Real Madrid midfield in the years to come.
The former AS Monaco starlet has already played a crucial role in the starting eleven so far this season and it is only going to continue as the season progresses.
