Injury update: Real Madrid mainstay to miss weekend clash following untimely knock

Published

It is that time of the year when Carlo Ancelotti’s side are focused on the UEFA Champions League over any other competition. With the league title virtually in the bag, their undivided attention is on the semifinal against Bayern Munich.

Earlier this week, Los Blancos held the Bavarians to a hard-fought draw at Allianz Arena. The second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu will thus prove decisive, and Ancelotti will wish to have all his players fit for the game.

An untimely injury

According to a breaking update from Carrusel Deportivo, Real Madrid’s star midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni suffered an untimely knock on his foot earlier today.

The defensive midfielder thus did not train with the team and is likely out for the men in white’s weekend game against Cadiz.

Prime facie, however, the injury is minor and should not impact his participation next week against Bayern Munich. Needless to say, this comes as a massive boost to Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.

Rotations aplenty

While Tchouameni’s exclusion from Real Madrid’s starting XI against Cadiz may be relatively forced, there was a good chance the Frenchman would be rested anyhow.

After all, it is Ancelotti’s norm to give regulars a hiatus between the two legs of a decisive UCL tie.

As was the case when Real Madrid faced Mallorca before taking on Manchester City at Etihad, one can expect rotations for the weekend’s game against Cadiz.

Players like Joselu, Arda Guler, Lucas Vazquez and Brahim Diaz are all expected to get the nod to start on the night as the core players rejuvenate for the big European battle.

After unveiling the final squad for France for the upcoming European Championship, coach Didier Deschamps appeared in front of the media to discuss the nation’s preparations for the tournament.

Deschamps was notably asked about Kylian Mbappe and his potential move to Real Madrid in the coming summer.

Deschamps on Mbappe announcement

When asked when Real Madrid may announce the signing of Mbappe, the French coach replied (h/t L’Equipe), “They will decide when it’s time to make it official. As far as possible, I will adapt to the squad.”

This comes on the back of earlier reports which claim that Real Madrid are desperate to announce the signing of Mbappe before the start of Euro 2024.

The coveted tournament begins June 14, though France’s opening game is on June 18 as they take on Austria in the city of Dusseldorf.

Deschamps also dismissed concerns over Mbappe’s form, stating, “You don’t find Kylian Mbappé in good shape? He only scored 44 goals in the season. It’s true that he could have done better.”

Deschamps on Tchouameni’s fitness

As things stand, a total of three Real Madrid players are a part of the France squad for the European Championship.

One of them is Aurelien Tchouameni, who picked up a knock earlier this month which could keep him out of the upcoming Champions League final.

Deschamps, though, is not worried about his fitness and is hopeful of having the midfielder back for the Euros.

“Tchouaméni? I’m not worried. The deadline is too short for the UCL final but for the Euro it’s more than doable,” he said.
