Just in – Jose Mourinho to sign two-year contract with Real Madrid until 2028
According to an update from AS, it has been learned that Jose Mourinho has already accepted every condition required to return to Real Madrid.
As such, there are no longer any major obstacles standing between Mourinho and a second spell in charge of Real Madrid.
The Portuguese coach is said to be fully convinced by the project presented to him and is highly motivated by the possibility of returning to the club where he once transformed the mentality of an entire generation.
According to the outlet, the agreement is complete in principle, with only the final signatures still pending.
The current expectation is that Mourinho will sign a two-year agreement running until 2028.
Real Madrid had no doubts
The idea of Mourinho’s return appears to have gained strength gradually over the past few months as tensions within the club intensified.
The situation began towards the end of March when super-agent Jorge Mendes approached Real Madrid with the possibility of reopening talks with Mourinho.
At that stage, the proposal was not viewed as a realistic solution and was quickly pushed aside. However, several factors changed the atmosphere.
As results became increasingly unstable, concerns grew inside Valdebebas regarding the state of the dressing room and the relationship between supporters and sections of the squad.
The feeling around the club became more toxic with each passing week, creating doubts over whether the current environment could continue moving forward without a major intervention.
At the same time, the repaired relationship between Jorge Mendes and the Real Madrid leadership helped reopen conversations that would have been difficult years ago.
By early May, according to the report, many within Real Madrid had started viewing Mourinho as the ideal personality to restore authority.
Eventually, club president Florentino Perez made the final decision himself after consulting various opinions internally.
Complete shift in Real Madrid’s mentality
If confirmed, Mourinho’s comeback would represent far more than just a coaching change.
It would symbolise a deliberate return to strong leadership and emotional intensity after a season marked by instability on and off the field.
Mourinho remains one of the most divisive figures in modern football, but few managers understand the pressure and politics of Real Madrid better than he does.
There are, of course, risks attached to the appointment, but Real Madrid seem prepared to take that gamble if it means recovering stability and identity.
Real Madrid’s performance against Real Betis was shambolic, to say the least as the team faced many of the problems that have haunted them over the past couple of years.
But on a night where most of the attackers struggled to create anything of note, Dean Huijsen emerged as a lone bright spark for Los Blancos.
Huijsen keeps his promise
As reported by MARCA, Huijsen was the standout performer for Real Madrid, marshalling the backline with real authority even as the team struggled around him.
There has been a noticeable shift in the young defender’s mentality this season, with the player showing more competitive nature and looking much fiercer.
This is an attitude Huijsen had always promised, having inherited the iconic number four shift from David Alaba, a number he associates with his idols Sergio Ramos and Fernando Hierro.
“What I do know is that I’ll give everything of myself every day, whether in training or in a game,” he vowed, and at La Cartuja he delivered on that word.
His primary task was neutralising Juan ‘Cucho’ Hernandez, and he did so superbly, drying up the Colombian’s supply and repeatedly anticipating danger.
He also held his own in a niggly battle with Antony, refusing to be ruffled by one of Betis’ most inspired performers.
His composure on the ball, one of the qualities that has elevated him, saw him venture forward, forcing a fine save from the goalkeeper in the 11th minute and later heading against the woodwork.
The Konate partnership grows
Alongside him, Ibrahima Konate did his job, albeit without matching his partner’s brilliance.
The Frenchman was a little less assured, both in and out of possession, reflecting the two speeds of the centre-back pairing.
Huijsen looks settled and increasingly commanding, while Konate is still building the sharpness needed to reach his best in white.
Nonetheless, the partnership is heading in the right direction, and in Huijsen, Real Madrid appear to have unearthed a genuine leader for an area that has long been a weakness.
Each performance is also an argument to Luis de la Fuente, as the defender looks to reclaim the Spain spot he lost before the World Cup.
