In a major update, journalist Abdellah Boulma is reporting that Kylian Mbappe has decided to leave PSG as a free agent at the end of the season amid links with Real Madrid.

Mbappe, 25, has been with PSG for almost seven years now, and has been courted by Los Blancos for almost the entirety of that tenure.

The French superstar was close to joining the Spaniards back in 2022 when his contract was expiring, but made a late U-turn and renewed with PSG.

However, now that his contract is set to run down again on June 30, speculations about a move to Real Madrid have been doing the rounds once again.

Mbappe will leave PSG

There had been reports earlier this month suggesting that Mbappe had already reached a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid.

However, his entourage dismissed those claims and insisted that nothing was decided yet. It led to further rumours that Los Blancos could decide to look for other alternatives if he does not commit to a move in the summer.

But now, it appears that a free transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu could be on the cards.

As per the aforementioned report, Mbappe has decided to leave PSG, although he is yet to officially communicate his decision to the club.

Les Parisiens, who have been eager to renew his contract, are understood to have considered the club’s future with and without their superstar forward and are handling the situation calmly.

Nothing signed with Real Madrid yet

The report does add that Mbappe has not signed anything with Real Madrid yet even though he is eligible to do so having entered the final six months of his contract.

But it is claimed that the contacts between the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez have never ceased.

As such, Los Blancos are now waiting for the final green light from the player before they can tie up the deal.

Given the twists and turns that the Mbappe saga has seen in the past, though, one must take these reports with a pinch of salt and await more concrete developments.

Luka Modric is set to stay with Real Madrid for another season, meaning he will have played more seasons with Vinicius Jr. (7) than he did with Cristiano Ronaldo (6).

Feeling old yet? We thought so too!

Modric joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 after four seasons with Tottenham Hotspur. On the other hand, Vinicius Jr. joined Real Madrid in 2018.

By the end of the 2023/24 season, Modric and Vinicius will have spent six seasons together. This is the same number of seasons Modric played with Cristiano Ronaldo, who was at Madrid from 2009 to 2018.

However, with Modric set to stay for another season, he will surpass that, playing more seasons with Vinicius than with Ronaldo, the club’s all-time top scorer.

A new contract for Modric

It is important to note that Real Madrid and Modric have reached an agreement in principle for his contract renewal for another year.

At 38, Modric’s contract was set to expire at the end of the current season. For a while, it seemed the Croatian star might leave Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

However, things have changed recently, and Real Madrid have decided to offer him a new contract.

Interestingly, Real Madrid have also offered a renewal to Toni Kroos with club president Florentino Perez personally involved in the negotiations.

Modric and Kroos will continue

Reports suggest that Modric has agreed to the new proposal, with an agreement in principle now in place. It is also expected that Kroos will accept his offer, meaning Real Madrid will keep both veteran players for another season.

The Croatian was reportedly willing to accept a pay cut and a reduced role in the team to continue playing for Real Madrid. This flexibility may have sped up the agreement process.

His willingness to adapt to a reduced role and accept a pay cut has likely influenced the club’s decision to renew his contract for one more year.
