News of Real Madrid and their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe has heated up in recent days. The news arrives weeks after Los Blancos provided the player with a deadline, and it now appears that the player is closer than ever before to signing for his dream club.

The youngster is said to have already informed PSG of his decision to leave at the end of the season. With his contract ending in June, he is free to negotiate with clubs at will and can leave as a free agent come June.

The pre-planned silence

PSG have been aware of Mbappe’s decision to leave the club since the beginning of January. They requested the player, however, to not make any public announcement or hint of the same as they had a lot at stake in January as revealed by MARCA.

Matters including the audiovisual rights of the French championship were in negotiations for a sale, and news of Mbappe’s departure would negatively impact the valuation. Thus, the silence around his future.

Real Madrid, for their part, have remained silent around the Frenchman after his repeated rejections and left the ball in his park.

In what could be his final chance to sign for the club, the onus of taking the initiative lies on Mbappe and the coming weeks could see bigger steps from his side.

Imminent announcement?

With the pre-agreed truce now coming to an end, MARCA add that an announcement from Mbappe’s side could be imminent.

Real Madrid now believe that they are in pole position to sign the World Cup winner whose decision is expected in the next free days.

He is expected to announce his decision to leave PSG in February, and Real Madrid would be the prime candidate to rope him in without a doubt.

Real Madrid defender clarifies social media post after exclusion from Spain Euro squad

With the Spanish domestic season officially complete, all attention in Spain is on the upcoming European Championships.

Transcending the divide of clubs, Luis de la Fuente’s men will head to Germany next month, hoping to better their semifinal finish four years ago.

A big development on that front came earlier today when the RFEF officially announced the manager’s provisional squad for the event.

Recently crowned Spanish champions, Real Madrid, had only three representatives in the squad – Dani Carvajal, Nacho Fernandez and Joselu. Lucas Vazquez, notably, did not earn a call-up.

Vazquez sends a message

With 11 goal contributions in 37 games this season, it is almost astounding that Vazquez was overlooked by the Spanish management. The development, needless to say, came as a surprise to the player as well.

Vazquez soon posted laughing emojis on his official X account, seemingly mocking the coach’s decision to exclude him. He did, however, delete it soon after.

When asked about the tweet, the right-back denied it having anything to do with the Euro selection, saying,

“It had nothing to do with it, I give maximum support to the National Team. In the end, it is the coach who makes the decisions, we must respect him,” he said via COPE.

Set to stay

The 32-year-old right-back’s current contract with Real Madrid runs out this summer, and there has been no clear acceleration of talks between the parties to confirm an extension.

As revealed earlier this month, however, both parties are clear on their intent to continue working together for next season.

Despite his age, Vazquez has proven to be a more than worthy backup for Dani Carvajal and will continue the role in 2024-25.

The club’s hunt for a new young right-back and a long-term replacement, is this likely to be postponed to next summer.
