La Liga chief launches another attack on Real Madrid – ‘Whiny club’
La Liga president Javier Tebas has once again taken aim at Real Madrid, making his stance clear in a recent interview with ‘The Objective.’
The La Liga chief did not hold back as he addressed the club’s persistent complaints about refereeing decisions and other matters surrounding Spanish football.
Refereeing has been a hot topic in recent weeks, with numerous controversies arising over officiating decisions. However, according to Tebas, the Spanish Football Federation has failed to take appropriate action to resolve these issues.
He accused Real Madrid and its official channel, Real Madrid TV, of fuelling the controversy by shaping a misleading narrative that casts doubt over the entire footballing system.
“We’ve had a lot of controversy over refereeing in recent weeks. The federation is not looking for a solution. Real Madrid TV, Real Madrid, are creating controversy and writing a false story and putting all of football into question,” he began saying.
“All the clubs are complaining, but Madrid are putting the spotlight on it. It’s an aggressive, verbal and manipulated story.
“I know a lot of Real Madrid fans who don’t agree with Real Madrid, which is a whiny club, it cries all day long. They cry for the weekend, they will cry for the following weekend and it’s all the fault of a conspiracy.”
Use of VAR
Regarding the use of VAR, Tebas suggested that the technology is being relied upon too heavily.
He pointed out that ever since a past conversation between Florentino Perez and then-Spanish Federation president Luis Rubiales, the system has been applied more frequently than necessary.
“There is an excessive use of the VAR. Since the ‘everything OK Jose Luis’, Florentino called the then President of the Federation, Rubiales, and since then it has been used excessively.”
He expressed his desire to reform the refereeing system, claiming that if a survey were conducted among other clubs, the general consensus would be that both Real Madrid and Barcelona have historically benefited the most from refereeing decisions.
“We want to change the refereeing system. If you survey other clubs they will say that Madrid and Barça are the most benefited, but they don’t have television to say so. RMTV is the only media that is with this story.”
Attacking Florentino Perez
Tebas also took aim at Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, accusing him of promoting a football model that caters exclusively to the wealthiest clubs.
He argued that Perez’s vision prioritises financial power over the integrity of the sport, making decisions that benefit only a select few.
“Florentino’s football deceives people. He represents oligarch football, he represents only football for the rich. He wants to decide everything, the money that is distributed.”
While acknowledging his own Madridista roots, Tebas criticised a section of the club’s supporters for blindly supporting every move Perez makes.
Despite his criticisms, Tebas claimed that he still takes pride in Madrid’s success, stating that he was delighted when they won the Champions League. However, he drew a clear distinction between supporting the club and backing its president’s vision.
“A part of Madridismo is making the mistake of venerating everything that Florentino does, of saying that everything is fine.
“Madridismo should have an independent opinion. I am happy when Madrid wins. I was very happy when Madrid won the Champions League. I am a Madridista, not a Florentino supporter,” he added.

Real Madrid superstar avoids threat of surgery after new injury; could be rested vs Villarreal
Real Madrid were dealt a major blow during the international break as two of their key players, Kylian Mbappe and Ibrahima Konate, returned from the France national team camp with injuries.
The defender returned without even playing for Les Bleus after picking up a muscle strain in training.
As for Mbappe, he sustained a knee injury during the team’s UEFA Nations League clash against Turkiye, during which he scored the only goal of the game.
Despite the initial concern, tests confirmed that the issues with both Mbappe and Konate were not major and that the pair could be ready to play against Villarreal after the international break.
However, it could have been considerably worse for the superstar forward.
Mbappe avoided surgery
Indeed, AS reports that had he continued playing for France, Mbappe could have risked a serious injury, which would have needed him to undergo surgery.
Mbappe stopped after feeling pain following his goal against Turkiye and that decision proved important.
Medical tests indicate that continuing to play could have put him at significant risk of a serious injury, potentially one capable of derailing his season.
Real Madrid, who remained in direct contact with the French federation’s medical team, even feared that an operation might be required. That has ultimately proved unnecessary, providing some relief, although the club will proceed very cautiously with the forward.
For now, Mbappe has been diagnosed with the hyperextension of the posterior capsule of the left knee, with an expected absence of 10 to 12 days.
Rest vs Villarreal?
Based on the projected recovery time, Mbappe should be available when competitive action resumes on 10 October against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu. But being theoretically fit isn’t the same as being ready to play without significant risk.
That’s what Jose Mourinho is now considering. If the France captaion does return, it will be a tight turnaround, with two major fixtures immediately afterwards: AS Roma on 14 October and the Clasico at Camp Nou on 25 October.
Managing Mbappe’s return correctly will therefore be important, giving way to the possibility of him being rested against Villarreal.
The coaching staff has several options if they decide to rest Mbappe. The most straightforward would be to keep the current system and replace the Frenchman with Carlos Espi.
Mourinho, however, sees the Spain U21 international more as a traditional centre-forward who could be useful if the match requires a different type of attacking presence.
Endrick, who did well against Australia for Brazil earlier today, would also be an option, while the manager could go with a left-field option and deploy Jude Bellingham as an out-and-out forward.
Ultimately, everything depends on the decision over Mbappe. Real Madrid do not want a repeat of last season, when he continued playing despite knee problems before eventually stopping.
This time, the intention is clear: Mbappe will only return when he is fully fit.
