Real Madrid took on Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez yesternight in what promised to be an intense affair. For the visitors, it was a chance to overtake Girona to the top of the table, while the hosts, they were hoping to establish their presence in the top half.

An early goal from Joselu set the tone for the game, and even though Getafe looked much more promising in the second, they were still playing second fiddle to Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

And before you knew it, Joselu had scored his second against the run of play after a superb move from Vinicius Jr.

Apart from the goals, one particular incident stood out from the game, where Jude Bellingham tackled Mason Greenwood on the wing. Right when the ball went out of play, he called the English forward a ‘ra*ist’, according to a video that surfaced.

The incident was reported to La Liga by Getafe, who are now investigating Bellingham for the alleged remark, as per The Athletic.

Calling it as it is?

Greenwood was long considered Manchester United’s new star, coming out of Carrington, but faced domestic abuse and sexual assault charges after his girlfriend, Harriet Robson, leaked photos, videos, and audio as proof.

Eventually, the charges were dropped, though, by Robson and the couple now have a child together.

Manchester United decided, after investigation, that they wanted to move Greenwood on from the club due to heavy public criticism and scrutiny. Getafe pounced on the chance, signing him on a season-long loan.

Consequences for Bellingham?

La Liga is currently investigating the claim, and the saga could stretch out a few weeks, if not months. However, they should have known the consequences of allowing the transfer to go through in the first place.

Nevertheless, should the league board choose to take action against Bellingham, one can expect a stern reply from Real Madrid, who will not let their new superstar suffer the consequences for calling things as they are.

Luka Modric is set to stay with Real Madrid for another season, meaning he will have played more seasons with Vinicius Jr. (7) than he did with Cristiano Ronaldo (6).

Feeling old yet? We thought so too!

Modric joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 after four seasons with Tottenham Hotspur. On the other hand, Vinicius Jr. joined Real Madrid in 2018.

By the end of the 2023/24 season, Modric and Vinicius will have spent six seasons together. This is the same number of seasons Modric played with Cristiano Ronaldo, who was at Madrid from 2009 to 2018.

However, with Modric set to stay for another season, he will surpass that, playing more seasons with Vinicius than with Ronaldo, the club’s all-time top scorer.

A new contract for Modric

It is important to note that Real Madrid and Modric have reached an agreement in principle for his contract renewal for another year.

At 38, Modric’s contract was set to expire at the end of the current season. For a while, it seemed the Croatian star might leave Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

However, things have changed recently, and Real Madrid have decided to offer him a new contract.

Interestingly, Real Madrid have also offered a renewal to Toni Kroos with club president Florentino Perez personally involved in the negotiations.

Modric and Kroos will continue

Reports suggest that Modric has agreed to the new proposal, with an agreement in principle now in place. It is also expected that Kroos will accept his offer, meaning Real Madrid will keep both veteran players for another season.

The Croatian was reportedly willing to accept a pay cut and a reduced role in the team to continue playing for Real Madrid. This flexibility may have sped up the agreement process.

His willingness to adapt to a reduced role and accept a pay cut has likely influenced the club’s decision to renew his contract for one more year.
