Leny Yoro has become the hot topic in Real Madrid circles, with the LOSC Lille starlet reportedly emerging as the club’s main defensive target for the coming summer.

Regarded as one of the best young centre-backs in Europe, Yoro has made a solid impression in Ligue 1. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid among several top clubs keen on his services.

Lille president on Yoro’s future

Amid widespread speculation over Leny Yoro, LOSC Lille president Olivier Letang has recently broken his silence on the player’s future.

Letang asserted that this is not the right time to talk about Yoro’s future, though he did admit that there is widespread interest across Europe.

More importantly, the LOSC Lille president confirmed he had talks with Yoro himself over his future at the club.

“I spoke just yesterday with Leny. We talked for a long time. He is focused on one thing, finishing as high as possible with LOSC. To start talking about all this with him now would be a mistake on my part,” he said (h/t Le Petit Lillois).

Leny Yoro’s current contract at Lille expires in 2025, which makes him an appealing target for a club like Real Madrid.

Letang, though, did suggest that Yoro’s contract situation might be looked into, especially if Lille qualify for the Champions League next season.

“An extension? This is part of our discussions. If we play, yes or no, the Champions League next season, it may not be the same. I’m really sincere. We are focused on the season and I’m not just talking about Leny, it concerns everyone,” he said.

Letang was also asked about Yoro’s preferences, especially amid interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

“It’s not mere talk, but the players of football are not pieces of wood or glass, they are men. We talk a lot with the players to find out what they want to do,” he said.

“We will also see where we will be on the evening of May 19 after the last day of the championship. Maybe we will have the chance to play a European final,” he added.

Real Madrid, in the meantime, are likely to compete strongly in their bid to sign Yoro in the coming summer, with the player hoping to resolve his future soon.

Shocking Modric, Vinicius, Cristiano fact makes Real Madrid fans ‘feel old’

Luka Modric is set to stay with Real Madrid for another season, meaning he will have played more seasons with Vinicius Jr. (7) than he did with Cristiano Ronaldo (6).

Feeling old yet? We thought so too!

Modric joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 after four seasons with Tottenham Hotspur. On the other hand, Vinicius Jr. joined Real Madrid in 2018.

By the end of the 2023/24 season, Modric and Vinicius will have spent six seasons together. This is the same number of seasons Modric played with Cristiano Ronaldo, who was at Madrid from 2009 to 2018.

However, with Modric set to stay for another season, he will surpass that, playing more seasons with Vinicius than with Ronaldo, the club’s all-time top scorer.

A new contract for Modric

It is important to note that Real Madrid and Modric have reached an agreement in principle for his contract renewal for another year.

At 38, Modric’s contract was set to expire at the end of the current season. For a while, it seemed the Croatian star might leave Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

However, things have changed recently, and Real Madrid have decided to offer him a new contract.

Interestingly, Real Madrid have also offered a renewal to Toni Kroos with club president Florentino Perez personally involved in the negotiations.

Modric and Kroos will continue

Reports suggest that Modric has agreed to the new proposal, with an agreement in principle now in place. It is also expected that Kroos will accept his offer, meaning Real Madrid will keep both veteran players for another season.

The Croatian was reportedly willing to accept a pay cut and a reduced role in the team to continue playing for Real Madrid. This flexibility may have sped up the agreement process.

His willingness to adapt to a reduced role and accept a pay cut has likely influenced the club’s decision to renew his contract for one more year.
