Given their inconsistent form this season, Real Madrid have a ton of work in the summer transfer market going into the 2023/24 season.

There are, at least, four positions Madrid need to plug, including right-back, left-back, centre-back, and right-wing. Possibly a replacement/backup for Karim Benzema, as well.

They have got their work cut out within the squad as well, with four important contracts expiring in the summer. Three of them are in midfield, with Dani Ceballos, Toni Kroos, and Luka Modric all on the verge of becoming free agents.

Another players whose future is in doubt is Marco Asensio. Madrid have informed the winger that they do not count on him as a starter, and that his future could possibly lie elsewhere.

One of the teams interested in signing Asensio in the summer is Liverpool, as per Jacque Talbot.

On a free transfer, Asensio could prove to be vital for Pool, especially with Roberto Firmino set to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer. Pep Lijnders is also a huge fan of the Spaniard.

Primarily a right-winger, Asensio can also play centrally, as a false 9. His finishing and ball-striking are key parts of his game, and could come in handy with Liverpool, who are struggling to get the best out of misfiring forwards Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo.

That said, Asensio is not in the best of forms, either. He has played 18 games in the league – just seven starts -, scoring four goals and giving three assists.

Liverpool and Madrid are also expected to be involved with each other indirectly in the race to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund in the summer. Manchester City are also interested in the Englishman, with his price tag set at over €130 million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Liverpool are all monitoring Bayer Leverkusen and Germany wonderkid Florian Wirtz.

After recovering from his ACL injury, the teenage sensation has been slowly working his way back to his best form. So far this term, Wirtz has managed to rack up a tally of two goals and six assists from 13 matches in all competitions.

The 19-year-old’s talent and potential have never been in question and hence it does not come as a surprise that elite clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Liverpool are all keeping tabs on the German international.

A versatile attacking midfielder, Wirtz is capable of playing anywhere in the final third of the pitch and backs up with top-notch end product. Be it as a false-nine or in a more withdrawn role, the youngster has excelled for Bayer Leverkusen, catching the attention of top teams.

Real Madrid, for their part, are also understood to be among Wirtz’s admirers. Given the situation surrounding Karim Benzema’s fitness and the lack of backup at the top, the youngster could be an option, as he has shown potential while operating through the middle.

But Barcelona also have a strong interest in the teenager with reports even suggesting that they have already made contact with his father to enquire about his situation.

At the same time, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is understood to be a huge admirer of his fellow German and with Roberto Firmino on his way out, Wirtz could be lined up as a possible replacement.

However, Romano adds that the expectation is that Wirtz could stay at Bayer Leverkusen for one more year and depart Germany once the UEFA Euro 2024 is out of the way.

For now, there have been talks or negotiations with any clubs, but Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool are all tracking Wirtz and his progress in Germany.
