For a club to sign new players is always sweet news to the ears of fans. A new signing comes with a world of opportunity and brings an energy that is often lacking in the regular squad.

However, departures are as important as arrivals in the world of football. For every player signed, the club must usually part ways with players to maintain equilibrium.

One year ago, one might not have thought of Marco Asensio as an expendable asset. Now, the Spanish forward seems surplus in Ancelotti’s setup and could well leave Real Madrid this month.

According to reports from Diario AS, Liverpool are interested in signing Asensio and have already informed the player’s entourage. Further, AC Milan too have the player on their agenda.

Asensio has one more year left on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu. Though the club have formally submitted an offer to extend his contract, the forward feels he deserves a better salary and has turned it down.

The difference between the two parties seems large and unbridgeable at the moment and an exit seems likely.

The 26-year-old made only 19 league starts for Real Madrid last season despite appearing in over 30 games. In that duration, he found the back of the net ten times.

Liverpool are set to lose Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich in the coming days and view Asensio as a possible replacement. Los Blancos ask €40 million for their winger, but the Reds are willing to shell out around €30 million for his services.

It remains to be seen if Jurgen Klopp’s side pursues his signing seriously. However, the transfer seems to be a difficult one given how far the parties are at the moment.
