Manchester City, PSG keen on Real Madrid defender who has a big offer from Newcastle

Real Madrid are forecasting a major overhaul in the summer of 2023, with a host of players having their contracts expire at the end of the season. There are also players such as Ferland Mendy, who is facing an uncertain future at the club.
A recent report from Foot Mercato has offered an update on the future of the left-back, who has been a part of the Real Madrid setup since 2019.
The report suggests Mendy has become a subject of interest for various clubs across Europe. Manchester City are among the clubs keeping close track of the defender’s progress at the Santiago Bernabeu, along with Paris Saint-Germain.
Foot Mercato further claims that even Newcastle United have been alerted to Mendy’s situation. The Magpies, in fact, have made a big offer for the former Lyon starlet and have been monitoring him for a while.
Since joining the club in 2019, Mendy has featured in 122 competitive matches. During his time at the Bernabeu, the Frenchman has faced criticism for his lack of consistency, but he is a player who is rated highly by the club.
This is because Mendy has improved significantly since moving to Real Madrid. He has shown enough maturity, and his ability is appreciated by coach Carlo Ancelotti.
With that in mind, Real Madrid have no intention to part ways with Mendy anytime soon, despite the fact that a host of European giants are already exploring a move for the Frenchman in the upcoming January transfer window.
But there have been reports that some officials within the club are doubtful about his attacking abilities. At the same time, Mendy’s salary demands had led to contract talks coming to a halt and there has been no movement on that front as of yet.
And it must be noted that Real Madrid are after left-backs like Fran Garcia and Alphonso Davies, while they are also chasing Josko Gvardiol who is capable of playing as a left-back.
So while Los Blancos might be reluctant to let Mendy leave in January, an exit in the summer could be a possibility, with the defender attracting plenty of interest.

Real Madrid identify two positions that need strengthening in the summer – report

According to reports from Mario Cortegana (h/t Madrid Zone), Real Madrid have two objectives for the upcoming summer transfer window. The centre-forward and the right-wing position are seen as the two positions to be reinforced but no decision has been made yet about making a move.
This comes over and above the Merengues’ pre-existing need for new midfielders and full-backs in the coming windows.
At first sight, it may appear that Los Blancos are well stacked in the final third. In Vinicius Jr, Karim Benzema and Rodrygo Goes, they have three starting quality players who are well-complemented by the likes of Marco Asensio and Federico Valverde.
Yet, Vinicius is the only player on the aforementioned list who can boast of a starting role in a fixed position for at least the next decade.
There is worry over the centre-forward role considering Benzema’s lack of form and fitness throughout the current campaign. With the Ballon d’Or winner already 35, the club need a young reinforcement soon which is evident with the team’s struggle for goals this term.
Los Blancos have already invested heavily in Endrick in this regard. However, that has not stopped them from following established options like Dusan Vlahovic and Erling Haaland as their Brazilian wonderkid will not arrive until 2024.
The right wing is also understaffed despite the presence of young Rodrygo and Fede Valverde. The duo have no dearth of talent but have not managed to click on the wing as well as the manager would have liked.
Thus, it remains to be seen as to who the club targets to strengthen the wing and aim to stretch the play. Given the heavy investment planned for Jude Bellingham, a low-cost option is likely to be considered.
