As Real Madrid prepare for the season ahead, there is much excitement within the camp, especially after the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.

In addition to Mbappe, Real Madrid have a chock-full of next-generation stars such as Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, and Aurelien Tchouameni, among countless others.

Legendary Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas weighed in on the recent discussions surrounding Mbappe’s arrival at the club, comparing the current team to the era of the Galacticos.

Casillas on the era of Galacticos

Casillas, who will participate in a documentary about La Liga premiering on July 15, spoke about the atmosphere in the locker room during his time with the Galacticos.

“Imagine a documentary being made during the Galacticos era,” Casillas said. “You’d find a locker room with incredibly important people, who had a lot of media attention, fantastic players.”

Everyone knew that stepping into that locker room meant being watched by a global audience. It would be filled with stories, jokes, discussions, decisions, and talks, just like any other locker room,” he added.

“You’d also see Queiroz or Camacho giving instructions to Ronaldo, Beckham, Figo, and Zidane. I don’t think it would be much different from what it is today,” he further added.

On Mbappe potentially disrupting the locker room

Although the arrival of Mbappe has been well received by Real Madrid fans, some do worry that the Frenchman might disrupt the harmony of the dressing room.

Casillas addressed such concerns but pointed out that it is now a different era. He went on to back the current set of players to play in harmony.

“It’s a different time,” Casillas reassured fans. “I think people learn from the past. From what I’ve seen, these are good lads, and the team seems well-structured. The club’s decisions have always been sound, there’s no need to doubt that.

The legendary Spain goalkeeper went on to back Mbappe to perform well at Real Madrid while pointing out that was an absolute coup for Los Blancos.

“This Real Madrid team is only getting stronger, and adding Mbappe would be a huge boost. Any team would want him. But, it’s not like 20 years ago with us. There was a different air that was breathed in the dressing room,” he added.

While acknowledging Mbappe’s star power, Casillas emphasized the collective strength of the current team – the core essence of what makes Real Madrid such a special unit.

“Mbappe’s arrival would undoubtedly increase the team’s potential,” Casillas said. “But let’s not forget, this year Real Madrid has been phenomenal. They’ve dominated their rivals. The credit goes to their overall performance, both defensively and offensively.”

“Very few teams have been able to truly challenge them. Mbappe is an extra boost, an injection of energy. It will be interesting to see how other teams react and adjust to his arrival,” he added.

Finally, Casillas hailed Real Madrid for building the squad well and reaping the rewards of it last season. He is now hopeful that the team can replicate its performances in the coming season.

“On paper, Real Madrid have reinforced itself well and reaped the rewards. Now it’s up to the other teams to step up and make things difficult for them next season,” he concluded.

Former Real Madrid defender breaks silence on possible return rumours

Real Madrid’s left-back situation this summer is filled with intrigue. The futures of Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia are uncertain, while long-time target Alphonso Davies has yet to be signed.

Amidst this uncertainty, Miguel Gutierrez has emerged as a potential candidate for Real Madrid, with the Castilla graduate impressing during his time at Girona.

Gutierrez opens up about potential homecoming

The 22-year-old left-back departed Real Madrid for Girona in the summer of 2022 for a modest fee of €4 million.

However, as is customary practice with many young academy graduates departing the club, Madrid astutely negotiated a 50% sell-on clause in his Girona contract.

The Merengues also integrated a cost-effective buyback option of just €8 million, making his potential return to the club this summer a stark possibility.

Touching upon the possibility of a return, Gutierrez acknowledged Real Madrid’s buyback option, expressing his lifelong support for the club. However, he emphasized focusing on the present, particularly the upcoming Olympic Games.

“It is true that Real Madrid have a buyback option that depends on them, but I have always been a Real Madrid fan, and it is a pleasure for me to have my name appear there,” he told EFE Deportes.

“But this is something that must be left aside and focused on what matters now, which is the Olympic Games.”

As an underlapping full-back with tremendous qualities in possession, Gutierrez has the potential to offer something different compared to the likes of Mendy and Garcia.

However, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid can get their hands on Davies, as his arrival would likely imperil the Spaniard’s chances of joining.
