After a brief hiatus, there finally appears to be solid movement in the transfer of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid. The Paris Saint-Germain star has been on the Merengues‘ radar for a long time now, but it finally appears that the stars have aligned.

Swift progress was expected in the negotiations between PSG and Real Madrid after the youngster publicly announced his desire to not renew his contract with the French club beyond 2024. However, that has been far from the case.

Mbappe maintained that he wished to see out his contract in Paris, but his team were against the proposal with the idea of recouping economic compensation. PSG even considered offering him a new contract with a clause to sell him next summer but nothing came of it.

The latest roadblock in the process appears to be his loyalty bonus from PSG, with sources even calling the gap insurmountable.

Ramón Álvarez de Mon brings some much-needed positive news to the Real Madrid camp. According to the journalist, negotiations between PSG and Mbappe have really intensified in recent days. Both parties are working in unison to ensure that a departure can be arranged this summer.

Once the two parties agree on the terms of the player’s transfer, there will not be much delay from Real Madrid’s side. After all, Florentino Perez has the money ready to sign the star and is willing to meet PSG’s demand of €200 million.

Should the French star make the move to Santiago Bernabeu, he would become the club’s bannerman and central force in attack. With Karim Benzema no longer at the club, the spotlight would be on him to be the main source of goals.

All that remains to be seen is whether the player and his current employers can reach a middle-ground over the loyalty bonus.

There just does not appear to be any respite from injuries for Real Madrid.

Just when it appeared that they were close to having their full squad – barring the two long-term absentees – the Merengues have been struck down by fresh injuries this week.

Arda Guler, who was on the cusp of being named in the squad for the Las Palmas clash, injured himself in training on Tuesday.

And now, during the game against Las Palmas at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid have lost key defender David Alaba to an injury.

Close to the 40th-minute mark, Alaba went down on the ground clutching his leg and appeared to be in quite a bit of discomfort.

Soon enough, the medical staff arrived to take a look at the Austrian and seconds later he was off the pitch and straight towards the tunnel.

Lucas Vazquez came on to replace the injured Alaba, with Nacho Fernandez moving into the centre-back position alongside Antonio Rudiger.

Alaba’s injury leaves Carlo Ancelotti with just two fit centre-backs in Rudiger and Nacho, which is set to be a matter of great concern.

The hope will be that Alaba’s condition is nothing serious and that he is able to mount a quick recovery.
