Real Madrid have invariably been associated with and benefited from A-list footballers around the globe.

Although recently a shift in their transfer strategy can be observed, with the development of youngsters taking precedence, the Merengues continue to maintain their legacy of excellence by blending experienced veterans with emerging talents.

And two of football’s most prized assets Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe unsurprisingly continue to be watched observantly by Real Madrid’s higher-ups.

Kylian Mbappe’s move to Madrid is expected to materialize this summer as the Frenchman will leave PSG as a free agent.

But Haaland is also a long-time target for Real Madrid and the club have plans to sign him in the near future as well. In fact, the player intends to join the Royal Whites down the line too.

Consequently, the debate over which player would be a more suitable fit for Real Madrid has become a common topic of discussion.

The use of artificial intelligence (h/t Defensa Central) helps answer that query.

Who is the better player?

An interesting technique that can reveal important details about a player’s performance on the field is the application of Artificial Intelligence.

Based on an Artificial Intelligence algorithm, the 1vs1 Performance platform has given both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland high marks that accurately represent their skill and influence on the pitch.

The metrics ultimately handed Mbappe a score of 99.97, while Haaland gained a slim advantage with a score of 99.8.

These eerily identical scores demonstrate the high caliber of both players. Furthermore, the numbers support the widespread notion that these two are among the best football players in the world.

Interestingly, Haaland and Mbappe will both be vying for a semi-final spot in the UEFA Champions League as the pair take on Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

Haaland is on Barcelona’s radar

Despite the Norwegian being deemed an ideal fit for Real Madrid, Los Blancos may face complications in his recruitment later on.

Indeed, reports have argued that Haaland is being pursued by the Catalans, who intend to sign him in the summer of 2025.

Time will tell whether Real Madrid can secure the signings of both players, but speculation remains rife.

Luka Modric is set to stay with Real Madrid for another season, meaning he will have played more seasons with Vinicius Jr. (7) than he did with Cristiano Ronaldo (6).

Feeling old yet? We thought so too!

Modric joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 after four seasons with Tottenham Hotspur. On the other hand, Vinicius Jr. joined Real Madrid in 2018.

By the end of the 2023/24 season, Modric and Vinicius will have spent six seasons together. This is the same number of seasons Modric played with Cristiano Ronaldo, who was at Madrid from 2009 to 2018.

However, with Modric set to stay for another season, he will surpass that, playing more seasons with Vinicius than with Ronaldo, the club’s all-time top scorer.

A new contract for Modric

It is important to note that Real Madrid and Modric have reached an agreement in principle for his contract renewal for another year.

At 38, Modric’s contract was set to expire at the end of the current season. For a while, it seemed the Croatian star might leave Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

However, things have changed recently, and Real Madrid have decided to offer him a new contract.

Interestingly, Real Madrid have also offered a renewal to Toni Kroos with club president Florentino Perez personally involved in the negotiations.

Modric and Kroos will continue

Reports suggest that Modric has agreed to the new proposal, with an agreement in principle now in place. It is also expected that Kroos will accept his offer, meaning Real Madrid will keep both veteran players for another season.

The Croatian was reportedly willing to accept a pay cut and a reduced role in the team to continue playing for Real Madrid. This flexibility may have sped up the agreement process.

His willingness to adapt to a reduced role and accept a pay cut has likely influenced the club’s decision to renew his contract for one more year.
