Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was long linked with a move to Real Madrid in the recently concluded summer transfer window. While the interest was there, it never led to anything concrete between Real Madrid and Napoli.

Nevertheless, the player spoke publicly about his love for the club and even revealed that he is a Madridista.

The two teams have been drawn into the same group in the UEFA Champions League and will face off twice in the coming months. Unsurprisingly, Kvara’s links with Los Blancos have once again resurfaced.

The Georgian’s entourage slam the door close

In a recent interview with Calcio Napoli 24 relayed by AS, Khvicha’s father openly declared that his son was committed to the Italian project and slammed the door shut for his departure to Real Madrid.

“I want the fans to know that Khvicha does not want to change clubs and will give everything for Naples. We are very grateful.”

The player’s agent, Mamuka Jugeli was then asked directly about the possibility of Los Blancos knocking on his client’s door.

He was unfazed by the question and emphasised the fact that the Naples-based side were nothing less than Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

“We don’t consider that. We don’t think about leaving Naples. When one day Kvara is ready to play in Madrid or Barça, we will analyze it.

“Now he is in a great team with players like Osimhen, Di Lorenzo, Zielinski, a large group. I don’t think Real Madrid are favourites, Napoli can beat them,” he added.

A Ballon d’Or nominee

Kvarathskhelia was one of the 30 players across the globe to have been included on the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or award last night, and rightfully so.

The 22-year-old was instrumental in Napoli’s run to the Serie A title last season. He scored 12 goals and provided ten assists for his side in just 34 appearances, creating 14 big chances in the process.

There just does not appear to be any respite from injuries for Real Madrid.

Just when it appeared that they were close to having their full squad – barring the two long-term absentees – the Merengues have been struck down by fresh injuries this week.

Arda Guler, who was on the cusp of being named in the squad for the Las Palmas clash, injured himself in training on Tuesday.

And now, during the game against Las Palmas at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid have lost key defender David Alaba to an injury.

Close to the 40th-minute mark, Alaba went down on the ground clutching his leg and appeared to be in quite a bit of discomfort.

Soon enough, the medical staff arrived to take a look at the Austrian and seconds later he was off the pitch and straight towards the tunnel.

Lucas Vazquez came on to replace the injured Alaba, with Nacho Fernandez moving into the centre-back position alongside Antonio Rudiger.

Alaba’s injury leaves Carlo Ancelotti with just two fit centre-backs in Rudiger and Nacho, which is set to be a matter of great concern.

The hope will be that Alaba’s condition is nothing serious and that he is able to mount a quick recovery.
