Real Madrid and AC Milan have officially announced that the Serie A has decided to use the purchase option in Alex Jimenez’s contract.

Jimenez, who is just 19 years old, spent the 2023-24 season playing for Milan on loan from Real Madrid. Though he initially joined Milan’s Under-19 team, he quickly caught the attention of the first-team coaches.

His impressive performance led to him being called up for the main team, where he played in five matches across different competitions.

How much is the transfer fee?

The decision for Jimenez to stay with Milan is part of a deal worth €5 million. He has signed a contract with Milan that will keep him there until 2028, with a possible extension until 2029.

Interestingly, Real Madrid have included a buy-back clause in the agreement, allowing them to repurchase Jimenez for €10 million in the future if they choose to.

“Real Madrid wants to express its gratitude and affection to Alex Jimenez and wishes him and his entire family good luck in this new stage,” read a statement from the Spanish team.

Jimenez’s journey with Real Madrid began when he was just seven years old. He joined the club’s youth system and worked his way up through all the levels, eventually reaching Castilla, which is the club’s reserve team.

At Milan, Jimenez is expected to continue growing as a player. His time on loan has already given him valuable experience playing in one of Europe’s top leagues, and staying with Milan will allow him to further develop his skills and gain more first-team experience.

“Jimenez, born in Madrid on May 8, 2005, and trained in the white youth academy, arrived last season at Milan, where he made 19 appearances for the Primavera team and contributed to the European journey of the U-19 team to the final of the Youth League,” said Milan in their statement.

“The Spanish player made his first-team debut on January 2, 2024, in the Italian Cup against Cagliari, making a total of five appearances”

The Italian club sees great potential in him, and they are likely to give him the opportunities he needs to become a key player for their team.

Real Madrid’s decision to include a buy-back clause shows that they still see potential in Jimenez and want to keep the door open for a possible return in the future.

This clause gives them the option to bring him back to Madrid if he continues to develop and proves to be a valuable asset.

Real Madrid are in active negotiations with LOSC Lille for the transfer of Leny Yoro. After weeks of impasse, the club appear to have made some ground in the race to sign the Frenchman.

However, should the Yoro deal fall through in the coming weeks, Real Madrid have identified Lazio’s Mario Gila as the ideal alternative.

Formerly of RM Castilla, Gila currently plies his trade for Lazio and has emerged as a key defensive lynchpin for the Italian outfit, impressing onlookers with his technique and discipline.

Mario Gila picks up fresh injury

However, in a major development, it appears Mario Gila has picked up a fresh injury during training, reports Diario AS.

In the pre-season camp at Auronzo di Cadore, Gila appears to have fractured his left foot and could be out for several weeks.

Lazio confirmed the defender’s injury, stating, “Mario Gila underwent clinical and instrumental examinations which revealed a fracture of the phalanx of the big toe of his left foot, suffered during training.”

Gila has started taking the appropriate treatment and the extent of his injury will be known soon. However, as things stand, the defender could be out for at least the next few weeks.

What does this mean for Real Madrid?

Mario Gila’s fresh injury setback is sure to dwindle any hopes of a potential return to Real Madrid this summer.

In any case, Gila’s chances of returning to Santiago Bernabeu were slim given that Real Madrid have finally made some ground in the deal to sign top defensive target Leny Yoro.

Los Blancos, though, would have liked having someone like Gila available as an alternative, especially with LOSC Lille still demanding a fortune for the Frenchman.

Unfortunately, that might not be an option anymore, no thanks to Gila’s injury. The club, though, will keep a close eye on the Spaniard’s injury situation, knowing he could return to fitness before the end of the summer break.
