PSG plan to convince Real Madrid target Mbappe to sign new contract using two weapons
Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappe continue to be entangled in transfer rumours and speculations.
After the dramatic saga during the summer, the Frenchman did not extend his contract but made some financial compromises to patch relations with the Parisian hierarchy.
Both parties managed to reach a mutual understanding as Real Madrid’s hopes of acquiring Mbappe last summer were quashed.
However, Mbappe will soon be a free agent with the expiration of his contract in June 2024, and he will thus be free to engage in discussions with external parties in less than a month.
PSG won’t back down without a fight
Now, according to AS, PSG are not yet ready to roll out the red carpet for his exit and aspires to retain his services once more.
The Olympic Games and the opportunity to become the top scorer in Ligue 1 history are the two dangling carrots that the president of the Parisian outfit plans to use to his advantage to convince Mbappe to sign a renewal.
It is no secret that Mbappe yearns to lead France to gold in the Olympics. PSG, with their immense economic muscle, are aware that it could use this trump card to not put any obstacles in the way of Mbappe’s journey as the flag-bearer of the French national team.
“The decision to go to the Games concerns my employer,” Mbappe said during the most recent international break in response to a question about his desire to compete in the Olympic Games.
Moreover, Mbappe can still compete for the top scorer in Ligue 1. Currently, with 179 goals, he is in the top ten and has many players to overcome before he can cement himself as the leader.
The record is held by Argentine Delio Onnis, who scored 299 goals. For such a feat to be accomplished, the World Cup winner would have to spend around five more seasons at the club, which sounds unrealistic but is not entirely far-fetched when considering his patriotism and love for individual records.
PSG will once again resume talks with Mbappe next year, and performing well in the upcoming Champions League group-stage games will go a long way in potentially tying him down.
But Real Madrid continues to keep tabs on the player’s situation and reportedly will make a final effort at the beginning of 2024 to finally land his services.
In what will come as a pleasing development for fans, Fabrizio Romano reports that Real Madrid forward Rodrygo could make a comeback from his injury earlier than expected.
The 25-year-old Brazilian international has been out of action since March after suffering an ACL injury during a La Liga game against Getafe.
Due to the complete rupture of the ACL, coupled with associated meniscus damage, it was suggested that the attacker was staring at a lengthy time out on the sidelines and might not return until 2027.
In fact, the forward’s father, Eric Goes, recently stated in an interview that the Real Madrid ace could be back in February next year, just before the business end of the campaign.
Rodrygo could be back in December
However, as per the update from Romano, Rodrygo’s comeback could happen well before that expected date.
Indeed, if things continue to progress at the current rate, the 25-year-old attacker might return to action in December or by January 2027 at the latest.
This will come as a welcome boost for Jose Mourinho & co., considering that Rodrygo is a valuable player for the team.
Even though he had endured a tough spell prior to his form, the Brazilian’s versatility, work rate off the ball, and eye for a goal make him an asset.
Rodrygo eager to be back at his best
The update from Romano further states that Rodrygo feels very grateful to Real Madrid for all the help and support they have given him during this difficult phase of his career.
As such, the Brazilian international has made it a mission to return to action in the best shape possible and make an impact from the get-go.
The attacker has only recently begun working on the pitch with the ball indicating the significant progress he has made on the road to recovery.
And, if there are no setbacks, Real Madrid could recover one of their ace attackers before the end of the current year.
So far in his career, Rodrygo has made 297 appearances for Real Madrid, scoring 71 goals. He has a contract with the club until 2028.
