PSG to meddle with Real Madrid move for Man City superstar after losing Yan Diomande battle
Real Madrid have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Yan Diomande, making him the fifth signing of their summer transfer window.
PSG had been the frontrunners to sign the 19-year-old for much of the summer before Los Blancos swooped in at the last minute to be decisive and close the deal.
The French club also released an official statement revealing that the price tag and the financial demands of the player’s camp were unrealistic and would have broken their structure.
Now, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, PSG are pushing hard to sign Manchester City star Rodri.
PSG are unhappy about Madrid taking control of the Diomande operation and are now making calls for the Spaniard in an attempt to get one back.
PSG contacting Rodri’s camp or Manchester City would not automatically place them ahead in the race.
It could, however, increase competition, strengthen City’s negotiating position and potentially force Madrid to move faster.
Madrid have already contacted Rodri’s representatives
Real Madrid have reportedly held discussions with the midfielder’s agents, although final approval from president Florentino Perez would still be required before formal negotiations with Manchester City could begin.
Rodri would address an obvious sporting need. His positioning, control under pressure and ability to dictate matches would give Madrid the midfield organiser they have lacked in certain major games.
The club should not allow PSG’s manoeuvring to dictate their strategy, though. At 30, Rodri would represent a major financial commitment, and Madrid must decide based on sporting value.
The Diomande development shows Madrid can still win major transfer battles when a player clearly prioritises the club. Rodri’s situation will require the same clarity and patience.
It also shows that when Madrid comes calling, more often than not, players tend to choose them and Diomande is the latest in a long list who proves that.
PSG may want a small measure of revenge over Los Blancos, but, ultimately, it is the player’s wish that will matter, and it remains to be seen how this Rodri situation plays out.

As confirmed in a recent report by Diario AS, Real Madrid’s new manager Jose Mourinho has no doubt that he did not count on Ceballos for the ongoing season.
Being the straightforward communicator that he is, the Portuguese manager directly informed Ceballos that he did not count on him in any capacity, speaking out loud about a fact that was known as an open secret for a long time.
Having clarity that his situation at the club was not going to change, Ceballos pressed to leave and eventually had his way as the club allowed him to walk out of the front door with no transfer fee.
Times were tense
The Spanish outlet also add that the decision to let the player leave with a contract termination was not easy for Real Madrid to accept, especially given that it is a last resort.
In the negotiations between Ceballos and the Real Madrid hierarchy, there were some moments filled with tension and disagreements.
In fact, there was even an initial exit agreement that was reached which was cancelled in the hope of a better outcome.
Eventually, however, both parties reached a fitting resolution and Real Madrid enabled the player’s departure without any hurdles and Ceballos went on to join Real Betis.
Even that move required the player to take a massive cut on his salary, but the saga worked out well for both clubs as the player. From Real Madrid’s perspective, the space created on the team’s roster was worth its weight in gold.
