RB Leipzig superstar admits to being a childhood Real Madrid fan ahead of UCL encounter

Ever since bursting onto the scene for RB Salzburg, now-RB Leipzig starlet Dominic Szoboszlai has been rated as one of the best youngsters in world football.
With one goal and five assists to his name in all competitions, the Hungarian is set to the biggest threat to Real Madrid in their latest Champions League encounter. However, the 21-year old has revealed that has he always had a soft spot for Los Blancos.
“I was a Real Madrid fan as a child”, he said in an interview with RB Leipzig.
The highly-rated attacker added, “Each of us dreamed of playing this match as a kid.”
Ultimately, it comes as no surprise that Szoboszlai was a Real Madrid, considering the club’s status as one of the most well-supported teams in the world.
In addition, it is natural that he and his teammates are buzzing to face Carlo Ancelotti’s side, considering their status in Europe’s elite competition, especially due to being the current defending champions.
At one point, it seemed as if the Hungarian international could well have joined Los Merengues.
In December 2020, it was reported that former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane had gone as far as to call the Leipzig talisman in order to convince him to join the side from the Spanish capital.
The youngster was viewed as the long-term replacement for Isco, who signed for Sevilla in the summer.
However, the move failed to come to fruition, with the player instead deciding to make a switch to RB Leipzig.
As things stand, Real Madrid perhaps have the best strength-in-depth in midfield out of any team in Europe.
But if Szoboszlai does something special in the Spanish capital on Wednesday night, it will be interesting to see if the European giants are tempted to make a move for him.

U-turn? Benzema hints at Real Madrid stay during ceremony: “Reality is not the internet”

There has been a lot of talk around Karim Benzema’s situation over the course of the last week or so, with reports claiming that the Frenchman was on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu.
With his contract expiring at the end of the season, it was reported that Benzema was joining Al Ittihad as part of an incredible deal worth nearly €200 million. The striker was also offered 100% of his image rights and advertising deals by the Saudi government.
Over the last day or so, it has been reported that the move is all but official at the moment, as Benzema has accepted the offer, and will soon inform Real Madrid about it.
Benzema was awarded the MARCA Leyenda awards for contribution to sports today, and speaking during it, he dropped a rather cryptic message about his future – one that says quite the opposite to what has been in the news recently.
“Speak to the fans? Speak about what? Why should I speak of the future if I’m in Madrid?”, Benzema said.
“It’s the internet speaking, and reality is not the internet,” he added.
This certainly falls away from the departure line for Benzema, who was reportedly already contemplating his life away from Madrid.
At first, though, he was hesitant about speaking about his future, saying, “Staying or leaving Real Madrid? At the moment, I’m here…we have a game on Saturday.”
He repeatedly talked about the fans, calling them the best in world football. He also said, “I know how much Real Madrid fans love me. I feel that when I’m on the pitch, I give my best for them, always.”
“I always say that we play with 11 on the pitch but also with a crucial factor, Real Madrid fans,” Benzema concluded.
