Real Madrid are not considering a move for Ballon d’Or winner despite excellent World Cup
Rodri has been one of the beating hearts of the Spanish team as they lifted the FIFA World Cup title for the first time since 2010.
The Manchester City midfielder captained the team admirably and was a true leader in the middle of the park. His performance across the tournament was outstanding, and he was rewarded with the Golden Ball as the competition’s best player.
His World Cup campaign came against the backdrop of Real Madrid being linked with a move for the Man City star for a while. But even after much deliberation, it appears Los Blancos are not convinced.
Real Madrid not considering Rodri move
According to OK Diario (h/t Mundo Deportivo), in a report published before the World Cup final, Real Madrid are not planning to pursue a move for Rodri this summer, despite the clamour around his performances.
The 30-year-old is the player many Real Madrid supporters have been crying out for, and there had been suggestions the City midfielder would not resist a switch to the Bernabeu, with a transfer fee of around €50 million mooted.
Journalist Sergio Valentin had even claimed the club were preparing to make a move for him after the tournament.
However, several other outlets have firmly rejected that notion. Both OK Diario and The Athletic have made it clear that Real Madrid’s hierarchy have not seriously considered signing the Madrid-born midfielder.
The latter notes that the club’s management is even irritated by the constant association with his name.
Mourinho has not asked for Rodri
While Rodri enjoys support within the club, and even within the dressing room, the decisive factor appears to be Jose Mourinho’s stance.
OK Diario highlights that although the club admire Rodri’s style of play and personality, the Portuguese coach has never specifically requested his signing.
Mourinho does want a new midfielder, but the City man’s name is said to have never been mentioned by the manager himself.
A deal dependent on departures
Ultimately, any midfield addition hinges on outgoings. Real Madrid have made it clear they will not sign a new midfielder unless one leaves first, with Eduardo Camavinga the most likely candidate.
The problem, however, is that nobody in the current squad appears willing to depart.
Camavinga himself has no intention of leaving and is determined to win Mourinho over, further complicating any prospect of fresh arrivals.
In what will come as a pleasing development for fans, Fabrizio Romano reports that Real Madrid forward Rodrygo could make a comeback from his injury earlier than expected.
The 25-year-old Brazilian international has been out of action since March after suffering an ACL injury during a La Liga game against Getafe.
Due to the complete rupture of the ACL, coupled with associated meniscus damage, it was suggested that the attacker was staring at a lengthy time out on the sidelines and might not return until 2027.
In fact, the forward’s father, Eric Goes, recently stated in an interview that the Real Madrid ace could be back in February next year, just before the business end of the campaign.
Rodrygo could be back in December
However, as per the update from Romano, Rodrygo’s comeback could happen well before that expected date.
Indeed, if things continue to progress at the current rate, the 25-year-old attacker might return to action in December or by January 2027 at the latest.
This will come as a welcome boost for Jose Mourinho & co., considering that Rodrygo is a valuable player for the team.
Even though he had endured a tough spell prior to his form, the Brazilian’s versatility, work rate off the ball, and eye for a goal make him an asset.
Rodrygo eager to be back at his best
The update from Romano further states that Rodrygo feels very grateful to Real Madrid for all the help and support they have given him during this difficult phase of his career.
As such, the Brazilian international has made it a mission to return to action in the best shape possible and make an impact from the get-go.
The attacker has only recently begun working on the pitch with the ball indicating the significant progress he has made on the road to recovery.
And, if there are no setbacks, Real Madrid could recover one of their ace attackers before the end of the current year.
So far in his career, Rodrygo has made 297 appearances for Real Madrid, scoring 71 goals. He has a contract with the club until 2028.
