It’s been quite a while since Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz’s national allegiance has been called into question. The former Milan attacker has already represented Spain once, but thanks to his Moroccan roots, he is also eligible to play for the African nation.

As of today, no official word has been passed on, either from the player or from his representative, but if a report from AS is to be believed, the 24-year-old has made up his mind to play for Spain.

For a long time, the Moroccan national team has been trying to convince Diaz to represent them. But, the 24-year-old, who has already played once for Spain, wants to continue with La Roja.

A major upturn in fortune

It is to be noted that Brahim did not have a good start to the 2023/24 season. The tough competition in the team’s forward positions and the strong presence of Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo made it hard for him to be in the starting lineup.

But things have completely changed now, owing to troubling injuries. As for the forward, he has turned the situation around and is performing so well that he’s almost matching the best stats of his career.

Stats speak volume

Last season with Milan, Brahim played 40 games, scoring seven goals and providing as many assists. Interestingly enough, he is close to repeating that performance this season, having scored six goals already while laying off three assists in just over 800 minutes of action.

For what it is worth, his statistics have been better than Vinicius Jr, who although injured for a month, has had more starts than Brahim this season.

Brahim, for his part, has consistently performed well, whether starting or coming off the bench. He has embraced his role and, through hard work, is on track for his best season, even in a secondary position, something that tells a lot about the player’s personality.

If it continues like this, high chance that Luis de la Fuente might as well try his luck with the Real Madrid forward as UEFA Euro 2024 looms.

As Real Madrid get closer and closer to their final game of the season against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League, they are now sweating over the availability of one of their players.

It has already been confirmed that both David Alaba and Aurelien Tchouameni will miss the finals in London due to injuries.

Other than that, Carlo Ancelotti is likely to have the entirety of his squad available at his disposal, although there could be some concerns surrounding Andriy Lunin.

Lunin not in training for the third day in running

Indeed, Andriy Lunin has not participated in team training today, making it three days in a row heading into the Champions League final, reports Mundo Deportivo.

The Real Madrid goalkeeper is down with a fever that has kept him out of training for three days in a row now.

However, the report does add that despite not being in training for three days now, the Ukrainian international will fly to London and be on the squad list for the finals.

But with reports already suggesting that Thibaut Courtois will be starting in goal against Dortmund, Lunin’s continued absence from training only further strengthens the Belgian’s chances.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was absent from training on Tuesday due to personal reasons, is back working with the rest of the squad today. The Spaniard will have no involvement in Saturday’s final though.

Carlo Ancelotti is likely to go with the exact same starting lineup that he named for the Merengues’ final La Liga match against Real Betis.
