Real Madrid-bound Endrick opens up on media pressure: “Nobody is going to be Pele”

Real Madrid’s latest signing, Endrick, has opened up about the pressure he’s faced since agreeing to join the club in 2024.
The Palmeiras forward reached an agreement with the Spanish giants earlier in the season. Touted as one of the most talented players in the world, the Brazilian is set to join his new club in the summer of 2024, when he turns 18.
However, since the announcement of the deal, Endrick’s form at his current club, Palmeiras, has dipped. He has also faced comparisons to Brazil legend Pele.
In an interview with GQ (h/t ESPN), Endrick rejected these comparisons, saying, “I didn’t ask for this. There are situations that cross a line. ‘Ah, he’s the new Pele.’ Man, nobody is going to be Pele, he’s the king of football.
Endrick also spoke about the pressure he’s faced and the stories that have circulated about his personal life.
“Recently a story came out saying that I was in therapy, but that’s a lie. The press don’t know what’s happening, and they publish it. But I can’t do anything. If I come out and contradict everything they say, I’d spend all my time doing it,” he added.
Despite the pressure, Endrick is focused on improving his game and working hard. “I need to keep working,” he said. “That’s what Abel Ferreira [Palmeiras coach] asks of me. I’m an adult, the same as the other players in the squad. Nobody should feel sorry for me or pat me on the head.”
Endrick has made 12 appearances for Palmeiras in the 2023 Sao Paulo State Championship since his move to Madrid was confirmed, with just one goal scored. But he’s not letting the dip in his form affect his state of mind.
“I used to be aware of what people were saying about me. But not anymore,” he said. “I like TikTok, but when I see something about me, I move on quickly,” he said.
Endrick went on to talk about his critics, adding: “But there’s nothing I can do, I can’t ask people not to talk about my life. I always said I’d like all Brazilians to be able to be close to me, but I understand more and more that that’s not possible, there will always be people who attack me.“
Real Madrid have shown support for Endrick and have full confidence in the youngster. The fans, too, will be eager to see Endrick in action in a few years’ time and will no doubt be hoping he lives up to the hype.

Harry Kane ‘very close’ to completing Real Madrid move, only final details remain – report

Jude Bellingham’s move to Real Madrid was finally closed earlier today as officially confirmed by Borussia Dortmund on their website. Yet, the offices at Santiago Bernabeu have not even taken a break to celebrate their success.
According to reports from Alfredo Pedullà, Los Blancos are now completely focused on the acquisition of Harry Kane. The English striker’s arrival is very close to approaching closure and only a few details remain to be sorted.
The Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur representatives reportedly held a meeting today over the striker’s transfer. The agenda was to agree on a number for the transfer fee.
The Premier League side began the proceedings with an expectation of €100 to €110 million in exchange for Kane. However, the Merengues suggested a lower point at €80 to €90 million, albeit with the option to include bonuses.
There is not much separating the two parties at the moment, and the minor gap will be bridged in the coming days. Overall, the meeting ended with a broad understanding between the two clubs.
Carlo Ancelotti sees the English striker as the centre-piece of his attack for next season given the recent departure of Karim Benzema. After all, Kane has been one of football’s most consistent goalscorers over the past decade.
Yet, Los Blancos cannot afford to let their guard down with one signing and will need to rope in at least two more names in attack to serve as backup options. The exits of Mariano Diaz, Marco Asensio, and Eden Hazard leave them with no squad depth, after all.
Kane has scored 30, 17, and 23 goals in his last three seasons in the Premier League and is the epitome of consistency. Further, he had three assists in his most recent league season and created 14 big chances.
