Real Madrid close to offering a one-year extension to Champions League hero

Joselu’s story at Real Madrid is nothing short of inspirational, and his exploits last night reserved him a place in the club’s history books as he single-handedly turned the tide around for the men in white and earned them a place in the UCL final.

Since arriving on loan from Espanyol last summer as a backup striker after Karim Benzema’s departure, the veteran has scored nine goals and provided two assists for Los Blancos in La Liga alone.

Across all competitions, the 34-year-old has produced a tally of 17 goals and two assists.

The fact that his consistency has been without a regular starting spot only emphasises the impact he has had on the team under pressure.

Renewal on the cards?

According to El Chiringuito, Real Madrid are close to offering the 34-year-old Spaniard one more year at the club after his sensational season and heroics in the UEFA Champions League.

The club reserve the option to purchase Joselu permanently for a fee of just €1.5 million, and it remains to be seen if they look to pull the trigger on that front or opt to extend his loan for a further season.

Joselu is tremendously loved in the Real Madrid dressing room and the coaching staff adore him. The management are thrilled at how he has assumed his role in the team, and will thus be a key factor in engineering his continuity.

In any case, it will come as a massive bargain for the Merengues who can potentially complete the signing of a powerful striker for under €2 million.

In tears at full-time

Coming on as a late substitute when his team were trailing on aggregate, Joselu’s impact against Bayern Munich cannot be understated.

The first goal, indeed, was just a tap-in. Yet, the player needed to be at the right place at the right time to bury the chance and his positioning proved why he is one of the best in the business.

With his brace winning Real Madrid the tie in the dying minutes and pioneering a jaw-dropping comeback, Joselu was seen in tears after the full-time whistle as he came to terms with the cameo he had put up on the biggest stage.

It may not be easy for Joselu to find minutes with Kylian Mbappe and Endrick vying for the same next season, but an extension considering his contributions is more than deserved.

Bundesliga title-winner ‘is ready for Real Madrid’, says former German great

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
