Real Madrid confident about 18-year-old loanee’s ability who starred for AC Milan

The right-back position is one of the few departments where Real Madrid cannot boast of having a long-term fix in place. The men in white trust completely in Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez, but the fact remains that both players are on the wrong side of thirty.

A new young signing has thus been on the club’s agenda for a while now, albeit not at the top of the priority list. Reece James is the Merengues’ top target, but paying the Chelsea captain’s high price tag and recent injury woes are a concern.

A solution on loan

The Real Madrid offices, thus, have rightfully taken notice of the progress of their young talent on loan at AC Milan.

Alex Jimenez, Real Madrid’s 18-year-old right-back currently on loan at AC Milan, recently made his debut with the Rossoneri and left the streets of Milano in awe.

The youngster was handed his first-ever start for the senior team in AC Milan’s clash against Cagliari on Tuesday, playing 80 minutes and earning a standing ovation on his way out.

Jimenez was defensively immense and alert in the cup clash, whilst also getting forward regularly in threatening positions. Interestingly, he played at left-back on the night.

According to reports from AS, Los Blancos have great confidence in Jimenez’s ability and will buy him back if his level remains consistently impressive.

The club see him as an option for his natural position, at right-back, for the department could be weakened next season if Vazquez opts against renewing his contract.

As it stands, his deal with the Italians is a loan move with an option to purchase. Real Madrid, needless to say, maintain a buy-back clause if AC Milan choose to make his signing permanent.

No signing in the summer

Real Madrid already have a full plate heading into the summer transfer window with names like Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Alphonso Davies linked with a move to the Spanish giants. Reinforcing the right-back position, thus, has been ruled out.

The Merengues hope to renew Vazquez, more so after his recent run of spectacular form. It remains to be seen if an agreement with the Spaniard can be reached without hurdles, for Nacho Fernandez is another candidate who could earn a renewal if Vazquez refuses.

Looking towards the academy, Los Blancos have high hopes on Jesus Fortea to burst into the first team in the coming seasons. Alex Jimenez is only the latest entrant on the list of candidates, and notably a strong one.

Shocking Modric, Vinicius, Cristiano fact makes Real Madrid fans ‘feel old’

Luka Modric is set to stay with Real Madrid for another season, meaning he will have played more seasons with Vinicius Jr. (7) than he did with Cristiano Ronaldo (6).

Feeling old yet? We thought so too!

Modric joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 after four seasons with Tottenham Hotspur. On the other hand, Vinicius Jr. joined Real Madrid in 2018.

By the end of the 2023/24 season, Modric and Vinicius will have spent six seasons together. This is the same number of seasons Modric played with Cristiano Ronaldo, who was at Madrid from 2009 to 2018.

However, with Modric set to stay for another season, he will surpass that, playing more seasons with Vinicius than with Ronaldo, the club’s all-time top scorer.

A new contract for Modric

It is important to note that Real Madrid and Modric have reached an agreement in principle for his contract renewal for another year.

At 38, Modric’s contract was set to expire at the end of the current season. For a while, it seemed the Croatian star might leave Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

However, things have changed recently, and Real Madrid have decided to offer him a new contract.

Interestingly, Real Madrid have also offered a renewal to Toni Kroos with club president Florentino Perez personally involved in the negotiations.

Modric and Kroos will continue

Reports suggest that Modric has agreed to the new proposal, with an agreement in principle now in place. It is also expected that Kroos will accept his offer, meaning Real Madrid will keep both veteran players for another season.

The Croatian was reportedly willing to accept a pay cut and a reduced role in the team to continue playing for Real Madrid. This flexibility may have sped up the agreement process.

His willingness to adapt to a reduced role and accept a pay cut has likely influenced the club’s decision to renew his contract for one more year.
