Over the last few months, Ferland Mendy’s future at Real Madrid has been a constant source of speculation with the Frenchman’s contract set to expire in 2025.

With injuries weighing down heavily on the player and consistent play time eluding him, Mendy has had his fair share of struggles.

However, the left-back has been enjoying a solid run of form, especially shining in the most recent Clasico, which saw Real Madrid triumph over Barcelona with a dominant 4-1 win.

Renewal being considered

Now, according to Jose Felix Diaz of MARCA, inside the club, some voices are beginning to call for Ferland Mendy’s contract to be renewed.

In fact, Carlo Ancelotti went as far as to claim Mendy is the best left-back in the world defensively, showering him with high praise.

When the French defender is fit, the Italian coach does not harbor any doubts about featuring him in the starting lineup.

Although Mendy may not be the most graceful player going forward, his contributions to the defense and the balance he creates have made him an indispensable member of the Real Madrid squad.

If there is one thing the left-back has demonstrated in all these years as a Real Madrid player, it is mental fortitude.

He has shown the ability to handle not only injury concerns, but also the constant whispers from the media about potential reinforcements for his position, with Alphonso Davies proceeding to be linked with the Merengues on countless occasions.

With no renewal proposals being made yet and inquiries made by other clubs, with Chelsea also eyeing Mendy as a possible reinforcement, Mendy’s future has previously seemed distant from the Merengues.

Nonetheless, the 28-year-old understands he has all the trust and support possible with Ancelotti on the bench and the possibility of a renewal cannot be ruled out anymore.

Real Madrid will be on their way to England this Thursday as they gear up to take on Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday.

The players and the staff will be on a flight to London tomorrow to prepare for the clash at Wembley.

However, according to a report from journalist Arancha Rodriguez, Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin might not travel with the rest of the team tomorrow.

The 25-year-old Ukrainian goalkeeper has not trained for three days in a row after coming down with the flu.

Lunin has overcome the flu, but he still has the virus and there is still a chance he could be contagious.

As such, Real Madrid, aware of the importance of Saturday’s match against Borussia Dortmund, are considering leaving the Ukrainian behind to avoid any possible contagion ahead of the Champions League final.

The goalkeeper will likely not travel with the rest of the expedition to London on Thursday and will fly alone on Saturday to avoid the risk of infection.

On Thursday, Lunin will undergo another check-up and, depending on the viral load, he could even travel on Friday. But it seems impossible for him to travel with his teammates.

It has already been suggested that Lunin would be making way for Thibaut Courtois in the starting lineup against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. The likelihood of that has increased following the events of this week.
