It goes without saying that Joselu has made quite an impact at Real Madrid this season. Brought in as a desperate attempt to replace a departing Karim Benzema, the 33-year-old Espanyol loanee has gone on to score 13 goals across all competitions.

However, as the 2023/24 season reaches its business end, questions regarding his continuity, especially in the wake of speculations about Kylian Mbappe’s arrival in the Spanish capital.

As such, while nothing is decided yet, a report from SPORT has claimed that if Mbappe ends up signing for Real Madrid, the 33-year-old forward could be the one sacrificed.

Joselu has excelled

Joselu is performing at the highest level at the moment. Even though he started the new season as a substitute, manager Carlo Ancelotti has relied on him more than anticipated. He has played in 34 out of 35 games Real Madrid have played so far, starting in 12 of them.

Furthermore, Joselu, who is on loan at Real Madrid with a purchase option included, has outperformed some of his top teammates in terms of efficiency despite playing fewer minutes.

In that regard, he only needs 105 minutes to score a goal, which is better than Vinicius Jr. (146 minutes), Rodrygo (196 minutes), and even the club’s top scorer, Jude Bellingham (123 minutes).

Every good thing has an ending

As they say, every story needs an ending and Joselu’s might not have the happy one. This season, Ancelotti altered his formation in order to slot Joselu into the playing XI in the face of Vinicius Jr’s injury.

However, the Italian is likely to keep his usual 4-3-3 approach next season as Endrick coming in means the team would have a new player who will compete directly for a position on the team.

However, the Brazilian will need some time to get used to the team and for that matter, Joselu can act as the backup. But if Mbappe joins, things will change a lot.

With the French World Cup winner, the chances of Joselu playing alongside Endrick, Rodrygo, Vinicius and Mbappe will be very limited, especially if the coach doesn’t stick to the 4-3-3 formation.

This is why Real Madrid, even though with a very heavy heart, might decide against activating the €1.5 million permanent buy option they have for him.

According to a recent report from Defensa Central, Manchester United have set their sights on Real Madrid forward Joselu and for that, they are prepared to make a generous offer to lure him, proposing a two-year contract with an impressive salary of €5 million net per year.

Manchester United’s interest in signing Joselu has grown in recent months. His reputation has been on the rise, and United are willing to go all out to secure his signature.

At Real Madrid, the forward’s exceptional performance, particularly his two crucial goals in the European Cup semi-final against Bayern Munich, has made a significant impression.

It is said that this performance highlighted the importance of keeping a strong squad, and Joselu’s contributions have not gone unnoticed.

Real Madrid can sign him

While Joselu is currently committed to Espanyol until June 2024, Real Madrid hold a potential purchase option for him

The cost of this option is relatively low, but it is important to note that Real Madrid’s roster is quite full, with limited space for new players.

Despite this, Joselu’s previous stint in the Premier League has not been forgotten, and Manchester United remains keenly interested in bringing him back to England.

Joselu is an old-school forward who knows what it means to face some of the toughest defences in the world. He understands the challenges and the battles that come with playing at the highest level.

United love Joselu

Even if he is not guaranteed a starting position, his experience and knack for scoring goals make him a valuable addition to any team.

Manchester United see these qualities in Joselu and believes he could be a significant asset to their squad.

In England, there is talk of a lucrative two-year contract on the table for the Galician footballer. This deal would significantly boost Joselu’s salary, offering him €5 million net per year.

This substantial increase in his earnings is a key part of United’s strategy to tempt him away from Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training complex.

Carlo Ancelotti and his staff are very pleased with Joselu’s performance as he has proven to be more than just a team player, but there is a chance that they might still lose him this summer.
