Ferland Mendy has had an up-and-down trajectory at Real Madrid since he joined the club back in the summer of 2019 from Olympique Lyon.

The 28-year-old took some time to replace Marcelo as the first-choice left-back but has served the team well ever since, although injuries did make his continuity come into doubt.

Even though he has been largely fit this season, there was a phase when Fran Garcia appeared to be the preferred option at left-back, but Mendy has overturned the situation in his favour.

Now, the undisputed starter at left-back, the French defender is constantly hailed by manager Carlo Ancelotti as the best in the world in his position when it comes to the defensive aspect.

Mendy wants to stay

That has not stopped rumours of a summer departure from doing the rounds for Mendy’s contract with Real Madrid expires in 2025 and the club want to sign Alphonso Davies this summer.

However, as per MARCA, Mendy is not considering the idea of leaving Real Madrid in the summer window and is eager to stay on at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In fact, the French international would be leaning towards the idea of a contract renewal, having previously turned down an offer that he did not feel satisfied with.

As per the report, everyone at the club is happy with Mendy and his contributions. Meanwhile, the player himself feels good and respected at the club and is enjoying his life in the Spanish capital.

As such, he has conveyed that he is not contemplating a departure at this moment.

It does leave Real Madrid in a bit of a quandary, considering that they are eager to sign Davies from Bayern Munich while Fran Garcia is also on the books.

It remains to be seen how the situation is resolved by the Merengues and whether Mendy gets a renewal or is shown the exit doors.

After unveiling the final squad for France for the upcoming European Championship, coach Didier Deschamps appeared in front of the media to discuss the nation’s preparations for the tournament.

Deschamps was notably asked about Kylian Mbappe and his potential move to Real Madrid in the coming summer.

Deschamps on Mbappe announcement

When asked when Real Madrid may announce the signing of Mbappe, the French coach replied (h/t L’Equipe), “They will decide when it’s time to make it official. As far as possible, I will adapt to the squad.”

This comes on the back of earlier reports which claim that Real Madrid are desperate to announce the signing of Mbappe before the start of Euro 2024.

The coveted tournament begins June 14, though France’s opening game is on June 18 as they take on Austria in the city of Dusseldorf.

Deschamps also dismissed concerns over Mbappe’s form, stating, “You don’t find Kylian Mbappé in good shape? He only scored 44 goals in the season. It’s true that he could have done better.”

Deschamps on Tchouameni’s fitness

As things stand, a total of three Real Madrid players are a part of the France squad for the European Championship.

One of them is Aurelien Tchouameni, who picked up a knock earlier this month which could keep him out of the upcoming Champions League final.

Deschamps, though, is not worried about his fitness and is hopeful of having the midfielder back for the Euros.

“Tchouaméni? I’m not worried. The deadline is too short for the UCL final but for the Euro it’s more than doable,” he said.
