Real Madrid defensive target’s agent met with Barcelona director – report

In a major update, Jijantes FC is reporting that the agent of Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies, who is a target for Real Madrid, had a meeting with Barcelona sporting director Deco recently.

Davies, 23, has been identified as one of the top targets for Real Madrid heading into the summer, along with Kylian Mbappe and Leny Yoro.

In fact, reports had even suggested that Los Blancos had an agreement with the left-back and his entourage over a move and that they only had to strike a deal with Bayern over a transfer.

A twist in the tale?

As per the update, Davies’ agent was in Madrid recently and a day later he flew to Barcelona where he held a meeting with the Catalan club’s director Deco.

It must be remembered that the Canadian international’s contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2025 and so far talks over a new deal have not gone according to plans.

As such, there is a serious possibility that the left-back could be on his way out in the summer. And while Real Madrid appeared to be the likeliest destination for him, Barcelona’s entry into the picture might change things.

The Catalans could be in the market for a new left-back with Marcos Alonso set to depart as a free agent, while they are understood to be open to selling Alejandro Balde if a big offer comes along.

In that case, they might see Davies as a potential target, although given their financial situation, signing him and meeting his €13 million wage demands could prove to be a major hurdle.

Either way, the meeting between Davies’ agent and Deco puts a wrinkle in Real Madrid’s plans to sign the left-back and it will be interesting to see how things develop from hereon.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
