A report from AS has affirmed that Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies remains Real Madrid’s biggest target for the full-back position next summer as they believe the Canadian’s characteristics make him the best option in the market.

It must be noted that Davies’ ongoing deal with Bayern Munich is until 2025 and by the end of the ongoing season, he will only only a year left.

At present, while Bayern have made approaches towards extension, the player, with a current market value of €70 million, has yet to respond to those approaches.

This has given Real Madrid a perfect time to disrupt any development in the context. Right now, the team from the Spanish capital believes the time is perfect to look for a transfer at an affordable cost.

Real Madrid’s yearning for a Marcelo replacement

Real Madrid’s interest in Davies is no more a secret and Carlo Ancelotti holds a strong admiration for the player, should he remain at the helm of the team in the coming year.

In recent seasons, the left-back position at Real Madrid have witnessed a series of fluctuations.

These changes range from the decline of Marcelo’s form, the presence of Ferland Mendy, a defensive stalwart but a modest attacker, to the unconvincing performances of Fran Garcia to the conversion of Eduardo Camavinga as a makeshift left-back.

So it’s only fair for them to think of a long-term target and there is a growing sense of belief that Davies could be the one.

How will Madrid sign Davies?

Madrid’s summer transfer strategy is pretty much straightforward. The primary objective is to secure Davies at the most favourable price possible.

While it is anticipated that Bayern may demand a substantial fee, there is a belief that given his contractual situation, the Bavarians may yield.

For that to happen, Madrid are ready to part ways with Mendy, whose contract is set to expire in 2025 and has been marked as available for transfer for the past two years.

Real Madrid know that they might need to facilitate Mendy’s transfer at a reduced cost, a sacrifice they are prepared to make in order to create room for Davies.

Speaking in that regard, Davies’ representative Nedal Huoseh has recently said that there is indeed interest in the left-back and Madrid happen to be one of those interest.

“There is interest, as there is interest from many teams. We’ll see what happens in the coming months. I am sure that Madrid could be one of the clubs that would like to sign Davies.

“He played with Alaba for 3 years, they are friends, and they talk to each other all the time in private. Alphonso doesn’t share all the information with me, but I’m sure David would like to play with him again,” he added.

Real Madrid are in active negotiations with LOSC Lille for the transfer of Leny Yoro. After weeks of impasse, the club appear to have made some ground in the race to sign the Frenchman.

However, should the Yoro deal fall through in the coming weeks, Real Madrid have identified Lazio’s Mario Gila as the ideal alternative.

Formerly of RM Castilla, Gila currently plies his trade for Lazio and has emerged as a key defensive lynchpin for the Italian outfit, impressing onlookers with his technique and discipline.

Mario Gila picks up fresh injury

However, in a major development, it appears Mario Gila has picked up a fresh injury during training, reports Diario AS.

In the pre-season camp at Auronzo di Cadore, Gila appears to have fractured his left foot and could be out for several weeks.

Lazio confirmed the defender’s injury, stating, “Mario Gila underwent clinical and instrumental examinations which revealed a fracture of the phalanx of the big toe of his left foot, suffered during training.”

Gila has started taking the appropriate treatment and the extent of his injury will be known soon. However, as things stand, the defender could be out for at least the next few weeks.

What does this mean for Real Madrid?

Mario Gila’s fresh injury setback is sure to dwindle any hopes of a potential return to Real Madrid this summer.

In any case, Gila’s chances of returning to Santiago Bernabeu were slim given that Real Madrid have finally made some ground in the deal to sign top defensive target Leny Yoro.

Los Blancos, though, would have liked having someone like Gila available as an alternative, especially with LOSC Lille still demanding a fortune for the Frenchman.

Unfortunately, that might not be an option anymore, no thanks to Gila’s injury. The club, though, will keep a close eye on the Spaniard’s injury situation, knowing he could return to fitness before the end of the summer break.
