Sergio Santos has revealed critical information about former Real Madrid defender and Rayo Vallecano left-back Fran Garcia that has sent the rumour mill buzzing, and rightly so.

The Spanish journalist states that the offices at Santiago Bernabeu currently find themselves in decisive hours and are faced with a dilemma that could affect the club’s future.

Bayer Leverkusen are ready to sign the Spanish full-back from Rayo Vallecano immediately by paying his release clause in full.

Los Blancos have the right to first refusal and can immediately bring him back to the Bernabeu, but must decide quickly if they want to utilise the option.

Garcia’s current release clause at Rayo Vallecano is set at €10 million. Carlo Ancelotti’s side owns 50% of his rights, implying that they can re-sign him by shelling out just half that amount. A decision should be made soon regarding the same.

The former Real Madrid player has been scintillating for Rayo Vallecano since his permanent move to the club in 2021.

Garcia has two assists in 18 La Liga starts for his team in 2022-23, and has become a regular under Andoni Iraola. Defensively, he has overseen six clean sheets and averages close to eight defensive actions per game.

The option of bringing back the 23-year-old is undoubtedly a tempting one for Ancelotti, especially given Ferlan Mendy’s struggles this season.

Knowing the ins and outs of the Madrid-based team’s dressing room from a young age, Garcia could prove to be an able deputy, and even a starter, for years to come.

While indeed the Merengues did not intend to make any acquisitions in the winter, the situation forces them into taking a call over Fran Garcia.

If the Spaniard does not wear the white colours in the coming weeks, Real Madrid might have to give up any hope of bringing him back in the future.

Real Madrid are set to welcome two new stars this summer, Kylian Mbappe and Endrick, but the Merengues are keen on further bolstering their squad.

Owing to the embarrassment of riches Real Madrid possess in midfield, replacing Toni Kroos with a new signing in midfield is not seen as an immediate priority.

Nonetheless, interesting opportunities will invariably be evaluated closely and it appears the name of Adrien Rabiot has entered the club’s crosshairs.

Real Madrid not the only ones interested

But, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Real Madrid face stiff competition from Premier League clubs and Saudi Arabian teams in their pursuit of midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The French midfielder is set to become a free agent if he chooses not to renew his contract with Juventus, a decision that seems increasingly likely.

Known for his technical prowess and versatility, Rabiot excels at playing multiple roles in midfield and notably thriving as a goal threat with late runs inside the opposition box that tend to catch opponents off guard.

While Real Madrid have no shortage of quality in midfield, Dani Ceballos’ exit could pave the way for the 29-year-old to secure a signing for Los Blancos.

However, Real Madrid would have to outmanoeuvre both the financial prowess of Saudi Arabian teams and the competitive allure of Premier League clubs to secure Rabiot’s signature.

On top of that, Juventus are also not giving up on their efforts to try and renew the contract of the French international.

In any case, Rabiot is unlikely to be a priority target for the club but they will be sure to keep a close eye on how his situation develops.
