Real Madrid forward absent from training ahead of Alaves clash due to illness

Real Madrid have been rocked with injury and fitness problems one after the other in the ongoing campaign.

Heading into their final fixture before the mid-season break against Alaves, Los Blancos are already without Eder Militao, Thibaut Courtois, Arda Guler, Dani Carvajal, Eduardo Camavinga, David Alaba, and Ferland Mendy, all of whom are out with injuries.

Now, it appears that Carlo Ancelotti has yet another fresh concern to deal with ahead of Thursday’s game away at the Mendizorrotza Stadium.

Joselu not in training

Indeed, as per a report from journalist Edu Aguirre, Real Madrid striker Joselu did not train with the rest of the team today as he is dealing with gastric problems.

This comes as a matter of concern for Los Blancos, who are already light on numbers in the attacking department and have been utilising Brahim Diaz up top alongside Rodrygo Goes.

Joselu, for his part, has been a solid performer for Ancelotti’s team whenever called upon and has made valuable contributions. So much so that the club are considering turning his loan deal into a permanent one in the summer.

As such, his getting ill ahead of the Alaves clash comes as a matter of concern. But, the update from Aguirre adds that the 33-year-old veteran is expected to travel to Vitoria with the rest of the squad tomorrow.

Whether that means he will be fit enough to take the field or not remains to be seen. In case he is not, Ancelotti could opt to take along Castilla prospects like Gonzalo Garcia or Alvaro Rodriguez for the Alaves encounter.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
